The MMORPG Bless Online has had a disastrous early launch. The performance is so poor that players are struggling with severe stuttering and crashes. Due to a loading screen bug, some users can’t even enter the game at all. An expert advises against buying Bless Online.
Since May 28, the first players have been able to play Bless Online through a Founder’s Pack. The official release is today, May 30. Since then, negative reviews for the MMORPG have been pouring in online.
Mostly negative Steam reviews: Of 1,767 users, only 38% rated Bless positively on Steam (as of May 30). The technical implementation is criticized here, as the performance can only be described as catastrophic.
MMORPGs often have a rocky start. Why are players upset? The original launch of Bless in South Korea was not successful. That was in January 2016. Critics particularly noted that the game lacked good performance. Developer Neowiz eventually pulled the game from the market to revise it. The YouTuber TheLazyPeon mostly focuses on MMORPGs on his channel. He recently published a video about Bless that garnered over 303,000 views and more than 12,000 upvotes.
In the video, TheLazyPeon goes so far as to say that Bless is an insult to the entire MMORPG genre. He has already played the Japanese version and has now spent several hours in the Western version. He played up to level 33; level 45 is the maximum level.
The biggest criticisms from the video
Performance: The performance of the Western version is reportedly even worse than the Japanese one. Regular crashes occur. The fact that Bless is in “Early Access” is, in his view, no excuse since the game has existed for years.
Combat system: Combat does not run smoothly and seems delayed. The long animations make the combat static. Overall, the combat felt extremely sluggish to the YouTuber.
Interface: There is no way to customize the UI individually. The UI takes up so much space that it often causes a frozen game.
Player experience: The first hours were still nice. However, starting at level 13, leveling opportunities become quite repetitive.
Localization: The translations in English are so poor that it is difficult to understand the skills.
Neowiz has not been able to fix the fundamental problems so far: TheLazyPeon further states that the Bless team has so far not succeeded in putting together a technically optimized version.
TheLazyPeon speaks positively about the shop system: The YouTuber found no Pay2Win elements in the shop.
Maybe it’s worth waiting? But for now “Buy at your own risk”
The performance issues are currently a burden for many players, and the past shows that Neowiz has already struggled with massive problems here. It is advisable to wait for developments and see if the performance will improve noticeably. There is also still little known about the endgame, which currently seems to consist of PvP battles.
However, there are also positive voices praising the gameplay, which corresponds to a classic MMORPG. Those who are not bothered by the severe performance issues can buy the game for 30 euros on Steam.
