FIFA 20 gets a new mode that is otherwise only known from shooters: King of the Hill. In it, you must control zones with your dribbling skills. A dream for every casual trickster in FIFA.
Here’s why tricksters can be excited: With “Volta,” FIFA 20 is already introducing a FIFA Street mode that tests your skill capabilities. And now, another dribbling-heavy mode has been revealed: FIFA 20 is getting “King of the Hill.”
This is King of the Hill: This mode brings a kind of zone control to the virtual soccer field. In the opponent’s half, a control zone spawns randomly, into which you must bring the ball.
Now you need to keep the ball in there, which you best achieve with tricks and close ball control.
The longer you keep the ball with a player in the zone, the more a “Goal Value Meter” fills up – a multiplier that ensures your goals lead to more points. You can achieve a maximum multiplier of 3, but it becomes increasingly difficult to keep increasing the multiplier. Because the zone shrinks over time.
If you succeed in scoring a goal with a high goal multiplier, you earn multiple points – your goal is therefore worth more. According to initial testers, you must score with the player who held the zone. However, this has not been officially confirmed.
In this GIF file from EA Sports, you get a first impression of the mode:
What is all this about? King of the Hill is a fun mode that adds to the house rules game modes that were introduced in FIFA 19.
According to EA Sports, this mode is supposed to change the focus of a soccer game like never before. You must find a balance between:
- staying in possession of the ball
- increasing the multiplier
Anyone who likes to drive their opponents crazy with tricks is likely to have fun with this mode.

King of the Hill is not only available in FUT friendly matches
In these game modes, you can play King of the Hill: This fun mode has been revealed along with all the FUT changes, which is why one might think it is only playable in Ultimate Team. However, it can also be found in other FIFA 20 game modes:
- Kick-off
- Pro Clubs
- FUT 20
The house rules were only available in the kick-off mode in FIFA 19. In FIFA 20, they are expanded to Pro Clubs and FUT 20.
These house rules, including King of the Hill, can be played not only with friends on the couch but also online against other players.
What do you think of this? A mode you will enjoy?
