Zombies in Dead by Daylight cause a lot of chaos. This is quite interesting because it gives a whole new gaming experience.
Two days ago, Dead by Daylight introduced the upcoming chapter. It’s a crossover with the “Resident Evil” franchise. The new killer “Nemesis” is not only a big threat by himself, but he also has a whole lot of helpers with him – zombies. They spread the deadly T-Virus, harm survivors, and can even take them down. And that’s extremely funny.
What makes the zombies so special? The zombies are basically AI-controlled creatures that shuffle slowly through the map. They are attracted by sounds and thus move towards survivors when these make noise. Once they spot a survivor, they shuffle slowly in their direction and try to hit them.
What purpose do zombies serve? Zombies fulfill a variety of tasks and provide the killer with additional potential. Because zombies can:
- Scare survivors away from generators
- Consume pallets, since survivors can temporarily kill them with pallets
- Infect, harm, or even take down survivors
- Cut off escape routes for survivors
Since zombies cannot be permanently taken out – but are extremely slow – survivors must keep moving constantly to avoid the zombies.
Zombies secure plenty of kills
On the PTR, Nemesis players are already having fun and checking how well things are working with the zombies so far. A whole bunch of funny clips have emerged showing zombies heroically in action. Sometimes they even do all the work.
The first clip from STALK3R29 shows a chase with Jill Valentine. Although Nemesis doesn’t reach Jill, she still goes down – because she runs into two zombies one after another, which unfortunately lure her teammates exactly to the wrong places.
The second video from bxhDETAILSk impressively shows how well the supposedly “dumb” AI of the zombies can help stop a survivor. The survivor fled to a round path with two exits. However, the killer and zombie split up and corner the survivor from both sides. He had no chance.
The third clip shows Jake hiding in a closet. When Nemesis wants to get him, he bursts out of the closet using the perk “Head On” and stuns the killer. But he does not succeed in his escape. Just a few meters away, a zombie is waiting and takes Jake out of the game.
The last clip shows a rather funny situation (which is probably going to change). Because zombies can coldly “facecamp” and trap survivors on the hook while the killer is running around elsewhere. The only help is to lure the zombie away, to then initiate the rescue. This video shows how that doesn’t work:
The final clip shows a zombie that one would normally call a cheater. Instead of completely falling down during a fall opportunity, the zombie “hides” directly against the wall and waits for the next survivor who also wants to jump down. In mid-air, the zombie strikes – and thus takes down the survivor.
So are zombies OP? It’s not possible to say for sure yet. In the clips, the zombies look extremely strong, but players mostly report that these are exceptional cases. In many matches, the zombies have little or no impact. Some zombies simply never notice the survivors and then do not contribute to the course of the match.
Nonetheless, zombies are sure to become an exciting new element that makes Dead by Daylight a bit more chaotic and spooky.
How can you play it already? If you want to experience the zombies in action yourself, you need to play Dead by Daylight on PC (via Steam). There you can download the PTB client and then sneak into the upcoming update to try out killers and survivors. However, progress made will not carry over to the live version of the game.
If you prefer to wait, you can play the “Resident Evil” chapter in the live version starting June 15.
Please note that the zombies are currently only available on the PTB and they may change before the chapter releases in about 3 weeks.
