Thanks to Link’s synthesis ability, it is possible to combine numerous objects in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Due to the many possibilities, some useful combinations are often overlooked. Therefore, Nintendo has now helped with a tweet to bring a rare crafting guide for a weapon to light.
The title has been available for Nintendo Switch since May 12, 2023, and players have still not been able to unveil all the secrets. As players are still in the dark about some things, Nintendo has now stepped in and published assistance on Twitter.
What kind of weapon is it? It is possible to craft a whip in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. All that is needed is the tail of an Echsalfos and a weapon.

When attacking, the extension of the sword acts like a whip: The tail can fully extend and hit enemies from a distance. This gives Link a melee weapon that can hit over long distances.

How does Link’s synthesis ability work? With the ability, Link can combine different weapons, shields, and items, resulting in new functions. A fruit on the weapon can, for example, trigger elemental attacks, while logs provide greater reach.
However, the synthesis ability is not to be confused with the ultra-hand, which can generally combine two different objects. This allows for example the recreation of penises.
The following items can be attached to weapons and shields through synthesis:
- other weapons and shields in all possible combinations (yes, even a shield on a shield!)
- Sonau parts (e.g., rocket on a shield)
- all materials (e.g., mushrooms on a shield)
- wooden items (e.g., posts, logs, and boxes)
- stone items (e.g., rocks)
This results in countless possibilities for combining the various items. It’s no wonder that many combinations have not yet been discovered by the majority of players. Similarly, some secrets like naked Link are unknown to many players.
Where do I get the materials? You can get the whip by defeating a monster that carries its own weapon. Make sure that the weapon hasn’t already been combined with another item. Then simply take the weapon from the opponent, and you have the basic framework for your whip.
The Echsalfos tail is a bit harder to find, as it is only dropped by one type of enemy. So go look for an Echsalfos and defeat it to obtain its tail.
With the material, you can not only craft a whip but also other useful things:
- As an ingredient for medicine
- For strengthening equipment
- For dyeing clothes (green)
It makes sense to collect several Echsalfos tails. So keep your eyes peeled during your adventures to craft your own whip. Many players didn’t know that the Echsalfos tail can be used as a weapon. In the comments, many users are surprised by its effectiveness.
