A new event turns Yrel in Heroes of the Storm into a cute anime girl with a mecha skin. It doesn’t really fit, but that’s what makes it particularly funny.
Currently, not much is happening in Heroes of the Storm. After the developer team was drastically reduced about half a year ago, updates are coming slowly and major changes are taking longer to arrive. Nevertheless, the game is far from dead and delivers exactly what fans want: apparently, more anime girls.
Yrel as a cute anime girl: A new trailer is meant to get players excited for the upcoming event “Mecha Storm II,” which promises new skins, quests, and related rewards.
The highlight of the trailer are again the small anime moments, in which popular heroes from Heroes of the Storm receive anime loot.
This time, the Draenei Yrel gets into a mech, but the demon hunter Valla also receives a mecha outfit (and a cute anime look in the trailer).
This especially reminds one of famous anime like “Neon Genesis Evangelion” or the “Gundam” series. The developers of HotS like to play with these popular elements from pop culture. There have already been clear anime skins in the past.
Yrel has become a fanatic in WoW: While Yrel in Heroes of the Storm still exhibits her relatively friendly, light-aligned nature, things look different in World of Warcraft.
There, she is currently in alternative Draenor and has completely succumbed to her light fanaticism. She imposes the light on all the inhabitants of the planet.
Those who refuse are either coerced into accepting the light or simply killed. This is experienced, for example, in the questline to unlock the Mag’har Orcs.
When does the event start? The event “Mecha Storm II” starts on June 17 and runs until August 5 – so nearly 6 weeks into the summer. That is more than enough time to earn a ton of loot boxes in the new event or to purge a few unbelievers from the Nexus with Yrel.
At least it is nice to see that the developers of Heroes of the Storm still have plenty of ideas even with the smaller team and continue to push the absurdity to new heights. This is exactly what the game needs.
What do you think of the skins and the trailer? Do you like them? Or is HotS moving too far away from what the characters actually represent?
