Trash or a treasure? The YouTube duo from the channel “Cheap Finds, Gold Mines” discovered a real gamer treasure in a demolition house that was almost destroyed.
Who are the treasure hunters? The YouTube duo from Cheap Finds, Gold Mines (via YouTube.com), regularly rummages through garage sales and flea markets, but occasionally also through buildings scheduled for demolition.
It was three weeks ago when they searched the house of an extreme hoarder. They were called by the niece of the now moved-out homeowner, who wanted to know if there was anything salvageable. Indeed, the channel operators Aimee and Korbin found a gigantic treasure: They discovered around $100,000 (85,000 €) in the form of video games, consoles, and merchandise.
Real rarities of the gaming world buried for 20 years
This is the treasure: Buried under tons of trash and junk, Aimee and Korbin found unbelievable rarities:
- An original, sealed PlayStation 2
- PS2 game Drakengard in very good condition
- Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Controller (Limited Edition)
- Special editions of Game Informer magazine
- Boxes of Xbox, PlayStation, and GameCube games. Some still sealed.
- Disney merchandise from the 1970s
They received around 85,000 € from the proceeds. They did not sell the countless valuable treasures alone. The YouTube duo keeps 17,000 €, sharing the rest with the 8 helpers and sellers of the consoles and games.
It was that difficult: In their three-part YouTube series, they document the search through the hoarder’s house. Not a square inch was free of trash or dirt. The YouTubers not only had to deal with foul odors and trash, but also aggressive animals were involved.
Aimee experienced the worst nightmare of many arachnophobes: while sifting through a pile of junk, she was attacked and bitten by a spider. Fortunately, it was worth the treasure she was able to recover in the end.
This is what the YouTubers say about the discovery: Kotaku (via Kotaku.com) reported that Korbin mentioned the house and everything in it was supposed to be demolished.
After the original homeowner lost a close friend, he collected everything with emotional value for him. Aimee and Korbin mention that they were not only there for the money: “We are saving these video games, we are saving history here and we are saving a piece of the man’s heart” (homeowner)
