The controversial YouTuber Logan Paul recounted the crazy story of how he acquired the most expensive Pokémon card in the world – the Illustrator.
Update: Originally, we reported the article at 5.2 million euros, but the deal did not take place in 2022, but in 2021. The exchange rates were quite different at that time than today. We have thus adjusted the news to the prices of that time.
Who is the YouTuber? Logan Paul is frequently criticized for his actions. For example, he cast 15 GameBoy Colors in resin and drew a wave of hate. Nevertheless, there are still plenty of viewers who celebrate him for his actions. He currently has 23.5 million subscribers on YouTube, making him one of the big names.
As the prices for Pokémon cards skyrocketed and interest grew, Logan Paul also indulged in the passion. He allegedly purchased some for 3 million euros and got scammed because the box eventually contained G.I. Joe booster packs.
During an appearance at “WrestleMania,” the WWE YouTuber wore the Illustrator card as a necklace and gained considerable attention. He then recounted how he came to possess the most expensive Pokémon card in the world.

How did Logan Paul come to the Pokémon Illustrator card?
In his current YouTube video, he stated that he initially searched for the most expensive Pokémon card worldwide and stumbled upon the Illustrator card. He had to have it.
Through contacts, he found a person in Dubai who owned this card in perfect condition and wanted about 3.4 million euros for it. After Logan Paul actually offered him this price, the seller decided to keep the Pokémon card instead. A setback for the YouTuber, who was eager for the probably rarest card.
It didn’t leave his mind and 4 months later, he re-established contact with the owner. This time, the negotiations looked different:
- Either Paul must pay about 4.9 million euros for the perfect Illustrator card
- Or he finds an Illustrator card that is in almost perfect condition, hands it over to the dealer, and pays “only” about 3.4 million euros for the flawless card.
After a short time and with the help of a Pokémon card expert, he found an Illustrator card graded PSA 9 and had to pay about 1 million euros for it. Logan Paul flew to Italy for the transaction.
Then it went to Dubai to meet the dealer who was supposed to hand him the Illustrator card graded PSA 10. He himself wanted to remain anonymous, but boasted about his collection, which was worth almost 12.3 million euros.
Furthermore, Logan Paul set the official world record for the highest transaction in the Pokémon card sector with the deal.
What makes the card so special?
Not only does the score of 10 make the Pokémon card exceedingly rare and valuable, but in general, it is not often found. The cards were only issued once in 1998 to the winners of a drawing contest held by CoroCoro magazine. There are supposedly 41 cards in circulation, while only 24 have ever landed at PSA (via psacard.com).
- 5 pieces reached a rating of 8
- 8 pieces a rating of 9
- and only one, which is owned by Logan Paul, has a rating of 10
Whether there are more tens and nines lying around in a drawer is unknown. However, every Pokémon collector knows this card, and many dream of even just seeing it once.
