The YouTube streamer Ludwig combined boxing and the game “Super Smash Bros.” in a live event and reached 270,000 viewers. What kind of event it was and which record he broke will be revealed on MeinMMO.
What kind of event is this? The event is titled “Moguls Chessboxing Championship” and is a hybrid sports event that combines chess and boxing.
The event was broadcast on the night of Sunday, December 11, 2022, to Monday on Ludwig’s YouTube channel.
Who is the organizer? “Moguls Chessboxing” was organized by the 27-year-old American YouTuber Ludwig “Ludwig” Ahgren.
- Ludwig is a former player and commentator of “Super Smash Bros.”.
- Ludwig was a successful streamer on Twitch who showcased streaming trends like Among Us and Rust.
- In 2021, Ludwig switched from Twitch to YouTube and has 3.82 million subscribers there.
- In September 2022, Ludwig managed to get banned on YouTube in just 90 seconds.
Sport combines chess and boxing
What is chessboxing? The competitors face off in 7 rounds, alternating between blitz chess and boxing. First, they play 2:00 minutes of chess, then step into the ring for 1:30 minutes. The final round is chess and lasts 04:00 minutes.
The one who loses is either checkmated in chess or knocked out in boxing. Additionally, a technical knockout leads to a loss, which is reached if one of the competitors goes down 3 times in a round or 4 times in a match. The same applies if the time runs out in chess.
In the preliminary matches of chessboxing, the competitors did not face off in chess between the boxing matches but in Nintendo’s fighting game Super Smash Bros.
Ludwig breaks viewer record
Which record was broken? While the preliminary matches were taking place and the competitors were beating each other up in the ring and in Super Smash Bros., the live event hit 279,000 viewers, reports the online magazine Dexerto. Additionally, the viewership is said to have risen to over 300,000 during the broadcast.
This way, Ludwig breaks two records:
- the most viewers at a Super Smash Bros. event
- Ludwig’s personal viewer record
With 245,000 viewers, the “Evolution Championship Series 2019”, also known as EVO 2019, is regarded as the most-watched “Super Smash Bros.” event (via echarts.com). It was an event for fighting games, featuring not only Super Smash Bros. but also games like Street Fighter and Tekken.
Ludwig’s personal viewer record was, according to Dexerto, just under 201,000 before the event and comes from Ludwig’s time on Twitch.
Only in November did Ludwig want to break another record from his Twitch time and tackled the “Subathon 2.0”. He streamed continuously for 50 hours from a glass box at DreamHack:
