Sony’s new PS5 Slim is now available, a YouTuber has now presented a PS5 that is only half the size.
The YouTube channel “Not From Concentrate (NFC)” has designed a particularly small PS5. This one is only half the size of the normal PS5, but the conversion was not exactly cheap.
The YouTuber has been focusing on shrinking PC systems for years, using various devices and 3D printers to realize some really impressive projects.
The presented PS5 resembles in size and design a bit of the old external hard drive cases that one used to have on their desk.
Is the new PS5 barely hotter than the official model?
What hardware has he installed? He replaced the original power supply with a 250-W HDPlex GaN power supply. This is a particularly small power supply. For cooling, an Alpenföhn Black Ridge and a Noctua Chromax with 120 mm are used.
The PS5’s drive does not fit in the case anymore. For this reason, the YouTuber has converted the drive into a kind of external drive. At the same time, the drive must be connected to the official PS5 board, which makes the conversion a bit more complicated.
For the fan and the control buttons, the YouTuber had to use some additional components and created some parts with his 3D printer.
Are there also disadvantages? Yes, the effort behind the conversion of the PS5 is enormous. The YouTuber invested many hours of work into the conversion, and especially the complicated electronics behind the drive and certain buttons required a lot of precision.
Another disadvantage is that the new PS5 gets a few degrees warmer than the official model. However, according to “Not From Concentrate (NFC)” this should not be a problem.
Can I recreate this? Most parts, such as the power supply or the fans, can be purchased easily in stores. The YouTuber also uses the official hardware of the PS5. However, for many details, such as the additional electronics, the buttons, or the case, the YouTuber uses self-designed components. This makes the recreation difficult.
PS5 conversion: A company now offers an official conversion kit for the PS5. This costs a hefty 800 euros, and you cannot use the kit for a PS5 with a drive. However, your PS5 will not necessarily become smaller, but significantly larger. All details can be found in the following article on MeinMMO:
