The YouTuber Kayla “Kayla Shyx” Loska (20) was one of the contestants in the escape show “Get Away!” by Twitch streamer Marcel “MontanaBlack” Eris (34). However, the event was overshadowed by an accident during the final game, where she broke both arms. In a video, she now speaks for the first time about the accident.
What kind of event was it? The Twitch streamer MontanaBlack received his own show on the streaming platform Joyn in December. “Get Away!” was a show in the escape room format, where 5 German influencers had to try to break out of a prison.
MontanaBlack himself acted as co-moderator and game leader.
How did the accident happen? The participants had to face a total of 6 challenges, starting with breaking out of their respective prison cells. In the grand finale, the “Wall of Pain”, they were supposed to break through walls, between which soil was piled.
Kayla Shyx climbed onto a pile of earth to climb over the second wall. In the process, she fell backward and apparently tried to catch herself with her hands. The result was painful: she broke both arms, and the event ended for her in the hospital. In a YouTube video, she spoke for the first time about the accident.
Kayla Shyx compares accident to near-death experience
This is how Kayla Shyx experienced the accident: The YouTuber initially reports on the first moments after the accident. She lay on her back and immediately knew that something was wrong: she was suffering from severe pain and saw her bones protruding under her skin.
The medical treatment was rather uncomfortable for Kayla Shyx. She found the doctor to be quite unfriendly and a paramedic tried to talk to her about the show, which she found inappropriate at that moment.
However, she now understands that he was probably just trying to test if she was still responsive.
Finally, the YouTuber received an injection for the pain. The following scenes Kayla Shyx describes as a “near-death experience”: she was only half conscious and recalled everything only vaguely.
Only in the hospital did Kayla Shyx come back to herself. However, she was still very disoriented – surrounded by strangers whom she only later recognized as doctors, and with thick bandages on her arms, she really started to feel fear there.
The doctors informed Kayla Shyx that she had broken both arms and needed to be operated on immediately. At that moment, it was too much for the YouTuber:
I didn’t know where I was, didn’t know how I got there – it was just too much at that moment and then the tears came. Then they rolled down, […] because I was just really scared. I was all alone, I didn’t see anyone I knew.
Nonetheless, the YouTuber did not lose her humor: she still made jokes with the treating doctors during the preparations for the surgery: “Half on painkillers, half overwhelmed and in shock, but there was still room for jokes,” said Kayla Shyx.
This is how the YouTuber is doing now: Kayla Shyx is now back home, and she seems to be doing well under the circumstances. However, in everyday life, she is still severely limited: she has not been able to wash her hair since the accident because the necessary movements are too painful.
The YouTuber’s arms are decorated with bruises in different colors. Kayla Shyx now has a metal plate in her right arm. However, she is glad that her arms are not in a cast: instead, she just has to wear a bandage and a pair of stylish splints.
“You didn’t expect a woman to make it to the finals”
This is how Kayla Shyx evaluates the event: The YouTuber also criticizes the event of MontanaBlack in her video. She was assured in advance that the challenges would be gender-neutral.
That was particularly not the case in the final game, according to Kayla Shyx. It was only about physical strength. The YouTuber felt at a disadvantage compared to the other contestants:
You want to tell me that a Knossi, who weighs twice as much as I do, or a Sasha, who has somehow done kickboxing, has the same conditions as I? No! That is completely based on strength, it has nothing to do with technique.
Kayla Shyx suspects that the organizers probably did not expect a woman to make it to the finals. That was really “unnaturally unfair”.
That is especially frustrating because the YouTuber wanted to make a statement against sexism – particularly in the streaming world – with her appearance in the show.
However, Kayla Shyx does not blame the organizers for the accident: accidents can always happen in such shows; you simply cannot foresee that. However, the YouTuber also says that she probably would not have broken her arms if there had been a mattress behind the wall.
Kayla Shyx wants revenge
Kayla’s statement to MontanaBlack: If the show takes place again next year, she definitely wants a spot again – but in the finals, it should not be about strength and it should not matter whether one is a man or a woman. Then she will take the victory.
If the event does actually take place again, then probably only with a revised security concept.
