World of Warcraft is finally an MMO again? At least that’s what Bellular thinks and explains how the Dragon Isles foster much more cooperation and group play.
Before the launch of Dragonflight, the streamer and MMO analyst was still full of doubts about whether World of Warcraft could turn things around. Now he looks at how Blizzard has changed the game world in the Dragon Isles and how this design naturally makes everything feel better. He believes that Blizzard has even brought “the MMO back to the MMORPG.”
What does Bellular think? In one of his latest videos, the YouTuber and streamer analyzes why World of Warcraft feels so good right now. In the past expansions, WoW had increasingly felt like a “lobby game,” where you only looked for a group for dungeons or raids without doing anything in the actual game world.
But that has now changed; the world has become more vibrant, and there are many more pleasant encounters between players.
He sees the improvements primarily as Blizzard’s MMORPG turning back to MMO aspects. More specifically, he said:
WoW feels very much like an MMO world… perhaps for the first time since Wrath of the Lich King. […] The Dragon Isles feel like they are always full of players who are getting things done.
How does he come to this opinion? In the rest of the video, Bellular analyzes why World of Warcraft with Dragonflight feels much more like a classic MMORPG again, and the main reason for this is the design of the quests and various events. Almost all “big” quests are designed so that you can manage them alone, but playing in a group is almost always more efficient and a bit more fun.
Whether it’s the cooking event with the Tuskarr, the big hunt, or the reputation grind with Furorion and Sabellian – you can succeed alone everywhere, but it’s simply more enjoyable with other players who are also in the area.
“Nothing is better than when the sky darkens just because someone has written ‘SOUP’ in the area channel, and everyone shows up to collect achievements and reputation.”
The events also naturally ensure that players meet at certain locations and then complete tasks together – whether by forming a group or just quickly killing a rare enemy together.

However, Bellular also notes that WoW still hasn’t reached Season 1, which could pull many players from the open world permanently into dungeons and raids. Whether the game world stays lively when the best players start grinding “Mythic+” again or take on the tough raid bosses remains to be seen.
What do you think of World of Warcraft right now? Does it feel good to encounter so many players and often collaborate with them? Or do you find that rather annoying and prefer quest areas “to yourself”?
