YouTube has announced in a statement that the current and future channels of Guy “DrDisrespect” Beahm will no longer be monetized. The popular streamer has been removed from the YouTube Partner Program following “serious allegations.” The 42-year-old will no longer earn money on YouTube. There are concerns that his behavior outside of YouTube could damage advertisers’ trust in the platform.
This is the statement from YouTube: In a statement to the US website Kotaku, it says:
We have suspended the monetization of DrDisrespect’s channel because he violated our creator responsibility guidelines.
Our creator responsibility guidelines are clear: If an off-platform behavior of a creator harms our users, employees, or our ecosystem, we may take action to protect our community, including suspending monetization.
While these behaviors are rare, they can cause significant damage to the YouTube community and potentially damage the trust between creators, users, and advertisers.
Our video on DrDisrespect’s ban reflects the knowledge that the public had about the issue until about a week ago:
DrDisrespect’s 7-Year-Old Messages about Twitch Become His Downfall
The crucial point: All the problems that DrDisrespect currently has stem from chat messages dating back to 2017, which he sent to a minor via Twitch’s Whisper system. The exact age of the person is still unknown.
On June 22, DrDisrespect was accused by a former Twitch manager of sending “sex messages to a minor”. Additionally, the now 42-year-old allegedly planned to meet her at TwitchCon.
DrDisrespect initially emphasized that he had not done anything criminally relevant, but ultimately admitted to having communicated with a minor. The conversation had drifted into “inappropriate areas.”
Since then, friends, fans, and partners have distanced themselves from him. Even his own gaming studio has cut ties with him. The separation from YouTube now seems to be another nail in the coffin of his career.
14 Years of Career Crumbling in 7 Days
The background: Influencers like DrDisrespect are primarily advertisers, walking billboards, and anyone who gives them a platform wants to make money through advertising with them. However, companies do not want their products to be associated with things that could harm their reputation.
Therefore, DrDisrespect’s 14-year career is currently going up in flames within 7 days:
- Guy Beahm published his first video on YouTube in January 2010.
- Later, after 3 years of unemployment and with a small child, he decided to become a full-time streamer.
- His rise began in 2016 on Twitch, as he became popular with battle royale shooters like PUBG and H1Z1.
- At his peak in 2019, DrDisrespect seemed untouchable; bans even fueled his career, and he signed a lucrative exclusive contract with Twitch.
- But a long unexplained ban in summer 2020 redirected his career.
“Sexting a minor” is an accusation where every attempt by DrDisrespect to mitigate the damage and to maintain control over the situation apparently falls flat. Even though he emphasizes that nothing criminally relevant occurred – this seems to be of little concern to anyone in this case.
DrDisrespect has announced a longer break – it is now clear that he has no career to return to. It’s crumbling for him right now: A big game completely removes DrDisrespect – character and story will be gone tomorrow
