YouTube Gaming has banned 18-year-old livestreamer, Darren ‘IShowSpeed’ Watkins, for a week. He is said to have violated the ‘spam and fraud policy’. The streamer first complained, but then realized his mistake. Still, the ‘dark side of the force’ currently attracts him, the streaming platform Kick. Representatives of the platform are calling on him on Twitter to leave YouTube and switch to Kick. There, he would be much better off – YouTube only wants to control and suppress him.
How was IShowSpeed punished? The extremely popular streamer on YouTube shared a tweet from YouTube on February 27: He has been banned for a week for violating the ‘spam and fraud rules’. He can’t do anything during this time.
The streamer initially expressed shock: ‘No way,’ he wrote. This can’t be true.
‘I did something very stupid’
What did he do? As it later turned out, IShowSpeed had broadcast the FIFA awards on YouTube, which is of course a violation of copyright guidelines.
The FIFA awarded the male and female players and goalkeepers of the year. Messi replaced Lewandowski as the footballer of the year.
‘I did something very stupid. I simply didn’t know that there was copyright on it. And now, I mean, I have to cancel my streams. I’m sorry, Bro. It hurts me, but I have to cancel them. Love you all, Bro.’
IShowSpeed then explains: FIFA broadcast the Footballer of the Year awards on YouTube. He tuned in to see who wins.
The 18-year-old says he also received a warning from YouTube, which he ignored because he thought it was for a gameplay highlight and not for the entire stream.
‘YouTube treats you like a peasant’
This is the reaction: Although IShowSpeed’s ban is apparently undisputed and not criticized even by himself, streamers Trainwreck and Adin Ross immediately write to him. They want to lure him to Kick, the new streaming platform, which is being built as a rival to Twitch by the online casino Stake.
Ross writes (via twitter): ‘Kick. Stop being so stupid. They treat you like a peasant, but you are their biggest streamer. You deserve shares and a multi-million dollar contract. You will be the owner of your own platform. Don’t be stupid, Bro. I love you.’
Ross further states in a video (via twitter), Speed should now dictate the rules to YouTube. After all, he earns millions of dollars.
The US casino streamer Trainwreck also sniffs the opportunity. He says ‘THEY’ want him to be their ‘golden boy’ and have full control over him so they can make everything a monopoly (via twitter).
Clearly, the Kick platform senses the chance to seduce the young Anakin, to lead him to the dark side of the force. What could possibly go wrong?
IShowSpeed is an extremely popular but also difficult streamer:
