Until you can download Fortnite again via the App Store on iOS, it will probably take until 2021. However, there will soon be a way for you to play on your iOS device again with GeForce Now. We will show you what you need to know.
This is how the situation has been so far: After Epic Games had directly enabled the purchase of in-game currency “V-Bucks” via an update to bypass Apple’s App Store fees, Apple removed Fortnite from the App Store.
As a result, Epic Games sued Apple and Google. A conflict ensued, during which Apple threatened to close all developer accounts of Epic developers and ultimately carried this out. This cut off developers from the iOS and Mac tools, leading to disastrous consequences for games using the “Unreal Engine”. A court ruled that Apple had to restore access, but Fortnite remains excluded from the App Store.
However, Epic now seems to have found a way to bring Fortnite back to iOS devices.
Fortnite on iOS, thanks to GeForce Now
What is GeForce Now anyway? GeForce Now is a cloud gaming service, similar to Google Stadia or Shadow. The service requires a fast internet connection, so you can play without expensive hardware. You have to stream your own game library; there is no store like Stadia.
You can use the service for free for one hour or pay a subscription for €5.49. Then you can play for a maximum of 6 hours at a time.

This is how it should work for Fortnite: GeForce Now is now available on iOS devices as a web app. It is intended to serve as a cloud service for other platforms, allowing you to play your already purchased games on your desired device.
To do this, simply open the website: play.geforcenow.com via Safari on your iOS device and follow the steps provided on the page. This will allow you to start GeForce Now directly from the home screen.
After that, you can link your existing Epic account and continue playing Fortnite with your usual progress.
Here is what else you should know: If you want to use this method, there are a few things you should be aware of:
- Fortnite will not be available immediately at the launch of the web app on Thursday, November 19
- A controller is required for playing (no touch version available yet)
- If you want unlimited playtime, a founder subscription for €5.49 per month is needed
As already mentioned, Fortnite is not available yet, as GeForce Now is working with Epic to set up a touch version of Fortnite so you are not reliant on a controller.

This seems to be the only way for iOS players to soon access Fortnite. The dispute between Apple and Epic seems to take a while longer. The CEO of Epic Games compared the dispute to the civil rights movement and was heavily criticized for it. This will not help speed up the decision.
