Sony introduced a new system for the PS4 and PS5 at the State of Play. The program is called “PlayStation Stars” and aims to reward loyal customers digitally. However, fans are demanding something completely different, so that the digital rewards will actually mean something.
At the event stream State of Play, Sony regularly showcases new features and new games for the PS4 and PS5. Sony also regularly brings new features to make gameplay feel smoother and faster on the PS5.
On September 13, 2022, there were plenty of fresh announcements, including information about a digital bonus program for loyal players on the PS4 and PS5: “PlayStation Stars.”
However, player reactions have been mixed. On one hand, they find the idea cool; on the other hand, there is another demand currently at the top of the list that would be more important.
PlayStation Stars aims to reward long-time and loyal fans
What exactly is it? PlayStation Stars is a loyalty program for PS4 and PS5. All members have the opportunity to collect loyalty points and can then redeem them in a catalog. If you are a PS Plus subscriber, you will also earn points when purchasing games in the PS Store.
What exactly has been presented now? In the latest blog post, digital collectibles have now been introduced. According to Sony, these are “digital representations of things that PlayStation fans love, such as figures of popular and iconic characters from games and other forms of entertainment, as well as valued devices that reflect Sony’s innovation history.”
Among the presented collectibles are
- The PlayStation 3
- The Gondolier’s Point from Ape Escape 2 (cover image)
- PocketStation
- Toro and Kuro celebrate their birthday
- and Polygon Man
How and when can you collect this? Sony has not yet explained how to collect these digital items. The program is set to launch in Asia at the end of September, with Europe and North America to follow a few weeks later.
Fans finally want an improved homescreen
What is the community’s demand? Many gamers find the idea of PlayStation Stars quite cool, but at the same time explain that they wish for something completely different: namely an improved homescreen.
An updated homescreen has been requested for a long time, especially for more personalization options. With PlayStation Stars, many are even more demanding of this change, as there needs to be a way to display the new digital collectibles. As one user wrote under the official YouTube video:
I really hope that we will get something like PS Home in the near future, where we can place these collectibles.
