In Pokémon GO, the AR mapping is now live! There are special quests that you can solve. We show you how the PokéStop scan works.
What’s new: Since last night, October 20th, there are new quests in Pokémon GO. They reward you when you scan PokéStops. You can receive items like balls or even Pokémon as rewards.
However, keep in mind that these quests are only available starting at level 20. Before that, you cannot use the AR mapping.
This scan works via the AR function of Pokémon GO. You must scan the PokéStop with your camera.
This is how the AR mapping and PokéStop scan works
This is what you need to do: Once you have picked up a quest that says “Scan PokéStop XY,” you can click on this task and get started.
In the first quest, Professor Willow will even help you out, but actually, the system is quite easy.
Your camera will open, and you can walk around the PokéStop. When you have filmed the Stop for a bit, you can successfully complete the task and claim your reward.
This can help you: Early trainers report that they can complete the field research quite easily. They say that they simply filmed their living room floor and Niantic counted that as a completed task. So, you probably don’t have to walk around the PokéStop.
Why are there these tasks now? Niantic has implemented this feature in the game for some time. Until now, there were no rewards for scanning a PokéStop. The enthusiasm of the players was therefore limited.
Now Niantic wants to promote this feature and rewards trainers for completing the PokéStop scan.
The developers want to digitally document the entire world. While you only see images at PokéStops so far, you might soon see videos there, allowing you to get a better feel for the location.
Are the tasks worth it? The rewards are quite useful. You can receive special candies, TMs, and strong Pokémon as rewards. Trainers have mentioned Dratini or Panzaeron, which is at least strong in PvP.
So, you should consider whether you want to complete a task related to AR mapping.
If you don’t enjoy the tasks, you can look forward to the Halloween event 2020:
