Borderlands 3 brings a small but nice feature that other games have already utilized. It helps group communication.
At the Guardian Con, Borderlands 3 made a small appearance and revealed some details about upcoming features. For example, the new duel mode was introduced, as well as a feature that is more suitable for cooperative actions and for those who often lose track in Pandora. You will be able to “ping” in Borderlands 3.
What does “pinging” bring? Pinging, that is marking a specific location, item, or enemy, can help maintain overview in the chaotic world. After all, there are often many enemies on screen, in addition to the numerous effects of the Vault Hunters and any story explosions in the background.
By pinging, you can direct the team’s attention to a position, so that for example, important loot is not missed.
Who benefits from it? Pinging is especially helpful if you don’t use a headset, either because you don’t have one or because you’re playing with strangers, with whom you might not want to communicate face-to-face. Regardless, it should also help established groups to quickly direct attention to important points.
The sound is praised: The small sound effect from the ping is praised for being not too intrusive yet still recognizable. At the same time, it is interesting that the characters themselves comment on the pinged object. For example, when targeting a chest, it is also commented by the character with “Hey, chest over here”.
There is criticism as well: Some comments criticize that the visual cue of the ping might be too intrusive and could obscure important things behind the crosshair. Here, there is hope that the intensity and transparency of the symbol as well as the volume of the sound can be adjusted so that it does not disturb in the game.
Do you think it’s good that Borderlands 3 is getting such a feature? Or was it something that wasn’t needed in other games as well? Do you find something like this annoying or helpful?
