In a survey on MeinMMO, we wanted to know from you which multiplayer genres you play the most. We summarize the answers for you.
If you want to play online with friends or many players, you first have to decide on a genre. Prefer an MMORPG, an action RPG, or a shooter? In a survey, we let you vote on this in early February 2023.
These are the results: Since the survey started, 2,131 people participated. Each could cast up to 3 votes for their favorite genres – there were a total of 4,086 votes.
There were 13 different genres as well as the option “Other” to choose from. You cannot undo your vote.

Rank 3: Action RPGs
- Result: 11.67 % with 477 votes
The action RPGs landed in third place in the voting. Also called “Hack’n’Slash,” these are games where combat is in the foreground. Typical representatives of the genre are the Diablo series, Genshin Impact, and Path of Exile.
The multiplayer is present, but you are not in a world with many other players, as is the case with MMORPGs. In Genshin Impact, for example, you are alone in your world until you unlock multiplayer – then you can invite up to 3 players.
Rank 2: Loot Shooters
- Result: 13.66 % with 558 votes
The loot shooters have taken second place. Here, it is mainly about loot. Enemies usually drop numerous items that you collect to make your character better and better. You can often open chests that are hiding even more loot inside.
Although loot shooters like Destiny 2 and The Division 2 receive a lot of criticism, the genre remains very popular among MeinMMO readers. Well-known representatives of the genre are also Warframe and the Borderlands series.
Rank 1: MMORPGs
- Result: 31.74 % with 1,297 votes
Rank 1 indisputably holds the genre that probably thrives the most on high player numbers. MMORPG stands for Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game – a role-playing game in which you are adventuring with many fellow players.
The genre retains its popularity through long-lasting titles like World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XIV, and The Elder Scrolls Online. There are also fresh titles like Lost Ark and New World added every now and then.
Although many MMORPGs that have been released in recent years have flopped mercilessly, the genre dominates our survey with more than double the number of votes compared to rank 2 and remains very popular among MeinMMO readers.
