Apex Legends will punish players who leave a match early. This is well received by the community, but some feel it doesn’t go far enough.
This is how the new system against leavers works: If you currently have enough of Apex Legends and want to leave an ongoing match, you will see a warning:
“If you leave your team, you may receive a delay in matchmaking. Do you really want to leave the game anyway?”
This means that a player who leaves a match early multiple times will have to wait significantly longer before they are allowed to join another match.
The penalty wait times are as follows: A player on Reddit seems to have figured out how the system works. If someone leaves a match early three times, they likely receive a 5-minute matchmaking ban.
If they then intentionally leave a fourth match early, they would receive a 10-minute wait time.
However, if a player is dead and has no chance of respawning, they are not affected by the ban. Similarly, if they leave because the team is not complete—for example, if someone has already left intentionally.
Players think it’s good, but not enough
Here’s how players are reacting: Nobody likes leavers, so every step that punishes such players is initially well received. On Reddit , some fans are pleased:
- “This is perfect, I think. Too often I play with a friend and the random who fills the third spot goes out as soon as he goes down.”
- “Finally!”
However, some do not feel it’s enough:
- “5 minutes is just long enough to go to the bathroom or grab snacks. It’s more of a friendly suggestion to take a short break than an annoyance.”
- “There should be a 5-minute ban for leaving even once. That keeps people from leaving the game for no reason. Those with a legitimate reason to leave would probably be gone longer than 5 minutes anyway.”
The punishment for leavers was not the only new feature currently in Apex Legends:
