What is the lighthouse? After the prologue of The Veilguard, you end up in a designated area called “The Lighthouse.” It quickly becomes clear that this is the hub of the game. In other words: it is the group’s base.
The playable character Rook, as well as all companions, have their own rooms where they keep their belongings and can customize them to their liking. From the lighthouse, you often set off on quests or discuss plans with your group.
However, those who rarely take a break and return there miss some important moments in the game.

Getting Closer with the Companions
What is there to miss? In the lighthouse, the group spends its quiet moments away from battles, exploration, and dramatic story highlights. Therefore, the companions have quite a bit to think about. Fortunately, they are very communicative with Rook and appreciate it when you listen to them.
If you take a look at your map in the lighthouse, you will see the symbols of your companions. They indicate where the characters are and if they want to talk to you. The game distinguishes between three categories:
- Time-sensitive conversations: You can recognize them by a gray speech bubble. Take notice of them and get to know your companions better. However, these conversations disappear after a while if you don’t take the opportunity.
- Important conversations: A yellow speech bubble indicates that a companion has something essential to share with you. This allows you to have a direct influence on the companion’s personal story – for example, persuading or encouraging them to do something.
- Quests: New tasks are indicated by an exclamation mark. If you want to experience each companion’s personal journey, you should take on these quests and play them in order.
Companion quests and all other conversations are optional. You do not have to complete them to finish the game. But let’s be honest: if you ignore these additional contents, you’re missing out on a big part of the game.
If you complete the companion quests, you will get to know them better and build a connection with them – which can even lead to a romance.
How often should you visit the lighthouse? If you’re unsure how often you should visit the hub, it’s advisable to do so briefly after each quest. This way, you can quickly check the map to see if there are new conversations or tasks.
