Many players are currently complaining about a bug in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. This prevents you from gaining experience points (XP) or making progress. This is especially frustrating when you are working on challenges.
What is the problem? Since Sunday, March 8, players have reported that they can no longer make progress in CoD: Modern Warfare. On Twitter, developer Infinity Ward has confirmed that such a bug exists.
As they write in the tweet, the developers are still working on a fix. At the moment, however, there is still no news or progress. The last update was around 11 PM on Sunday night:
Infinity Ward has not yet confirmed that the lost XP will be credited back to the players affected by the bug. We will inform you as soon as new information comes in.
The same problem occurred in November 2019 after patch 1.09.
No XP – No Challenges
That’s why it’s so frustrating: The fact that no experience points and no progress are being credited has several side effects that annoy players:
- Challenges cannot be completed
- Progress for weapon skins like the rare Damascus Camo does not count
- Higher levels in the Season 2 Battle Pass remain inaccessible
- You cannot advance to regular levels or officer ranks
- XP tokens are wasted if used
- Weapon progress for new attachments at the Gunsmith is blocked
Especially the progress on the challenges is frustrating, as these keep many players engaged and provide incentives to play CoD MW. The challenges are so popular that Infinity Ward even had to add even tougher challenges for hardcore players.
This is what players say: Although the bug annoys many people and numerous players are complaining, there is surprisingly a lot of understanding, especially on Twitter. Players are thanking the developers for working on such issues even on Sunday (in the USA it was afternoon when the problem occurred).
- The Dark Soul Ascends on Twitter writes: “You are the best, don’t worry. Black Ops 2 is full of hackers. Your game is at least still playable. Don’t let people be too hard on you; they just have a ruthless cheat they can’t get rid of.”
- DarkMage on Twitter writes: “Thank you. I know it’s frustrating. Thank you for working on a Sunday. Hopefully this will be resolved soon, so you can get back to your families!”
In the meantime, players are already enjoying leaked gameplay of the new battle royale Warzone, which one player apparently uploaded much too early:
