Blizzard’s new hack ‘n slash Diablo 4 will allow you to create complex and unique builds with a new skill system.
What is the intention behind the system? The previous system felt too simplistic for testers. There simply wasn’t a real reason to spend skill points. Therefore, Blizzard decided to overhaul the system.
Every point you invest in the skill tree must now be well thought out. Because by distributing them, you create individual and unique heroes, respectively classes, that actually play differently.
A new skill system for Diablo 4
How does it work? The Sorceress, for example, has upgrades and nodes in her branches of the skill tree – which is represented as an actual tree. With a level-up, you can now spend skill points to learn new skills or improve existing ones. You then have to decide which direction you want to evolve in.
To do this, it is necessary to really think about which skills you want to have. Because it will not be possible to learn all of them. This leads to tough decisions. Every node is supposed to influence skills in different ways according to Blizzard.
By finding your way through the branches, you decide how powerful your hero becomes and which playstyle you prefer.
Our main goal here is to have a unique class-specific mechanic in Diablo 4. Our aim is to integrate as many unique, class-specific mechanics in Diablo IV as possible. This is because many players enjoy trying out different builds or classes, especially during the seasons.

Additionally, it is possible to use skills in multiple ways. For the Sorceress, the enchantment system comes into play here.
What does this enchantment system look like? You can place a skill such as “Meteor” in the active skill slot or in the enchantment slot.
As an active skill, “Meteor” allows you to summon a fireball from the sky that you essentially control. You indicate where the meteor should crash.
If the skill is in the enchantment slot, it will automatically trigger. The meteors then fall from the sky at certain intervals and hit random locations.
This way, you assemble unique builds. You need to choose carefully what you spend your skill points on in the skill tree and how you use that skill afterwards.
