The Story of ARK in Aberration
The second DLC of the dino survival game Aberration was released on December 12, 2017. And it is here that the story picks up pace. New characters, a surprising final boss, and another cutscene await you.
In Aberration, new authors of the Explorer Notes also appear. However, they do not come from the past as before, but from the future.
- Diana Altaras is a pilot of the United Republic of Earth (URE) and comes from a future where TEK technology is in alpha stage.
- Santiago is a member of the Federation’s armed forces from the future.
Diana and Santiago come from roughly the same time. They realized early on that the three obelisks have a connection to the Overseer towers. Diana wants to destroy the Overseer with a TEK bomb, and Santiago helps her get into the tower without artifacts. Thanks to his hacking skills, this works, and the bomb destroys one of the towers, albeit with significant losses. The Overseer survives.

The Catastrophe Begins
With the destruction of the tower, the protective force field has also disappeared. Due to the radiation in space, the surface became uninhabitable, and the survivors had to retreat underground. That is Aberration as you know it today.
Santiago and Diana initiated the “Gateway Project,” a series of portals to follow a signal from Earth. To do this, they had to tap into the energy of an obelisk.
Over time, the others also arrived in Aberration, led by Helena, Rockwell, and Mei-Yin. In Helena’s Explorer Notes, it is indicated that the somewhat alien-like creatures in Aberration arose from a mixture of various DNA strands. She suspects that the creators of the ARKs are thus either humans themselves or at least have good knowledge of the DNA of Earth’s inhabitants.
Another Catastrophe Looms
Santiago makes a terrible discovery during a reconnaissance mission. The ARK is trying to destroy itself from the inside out to put an end to the activities of humans.
To escape the final destruction, Santiago wants to hack the main terminal in the Overseer tower to shut down the obelisks. However, due to a defense mechanism of the ARK, this fails, and the group is forced to destroy the terminal instead. The worst has at least been averted for the time being.
Rockwell as the Villain
Helena describes in her notes that Rockwell and his group at some point attacked Diana’s camp. The reasons for this are unclear. However, he had previously conducted many experiments with “Element” and also interfered with humans. According to theories, the “Nameless” originated from this – small nasty creatures.
Due to Element exposure, Rockwell became increasingly mutated, and Mei-Yin and Helena locked him in a deep cave. Over time, Rockwell managed to reactivate the ARK and connect with it. He essentially became part of it and took control.
The Players Appear in the Aberration ARK
As a player, it is your task to put an end to Rockwell. To do this, you must, as in other ARKs, collect three artifacts. You need these to teleport to Rockwell’s terminal.
In the final boss fight, you will first see the extent of the mutation. Only the distorted face of Rockwell shows that he was once human. During the fight, he regularly calls upon the Nameless and Reapers for help. Both creatures he is said to have created through his experiments.
After Rockwell is defeated, there is another cutscene, and the journey through the Gateway Project toward Earth begins.
The Explorer Notes also indicate that the Aberration ARK regained control after Rockwell’s death. However, since there are no more bosses to defeat, but the ARK protocol prescribes the defeat of a boss, Rockwell is continually resurrected as the final opponent. He is thus repeatedly destroyed by the players in an endless loop. His wrath grows steadily.
