What are romances? In Baldur’s Gate 3, you can have romances with your companions. To do this, you need to impress the respective person through your actions and words. Your relationship with these companions develops depending on how you behave.
The initial jokes about the characters in Baldur’s Gate 3, which seemed overly eager, turned out to be surprisingly accurate.
If, for example, Gale or Karlach were particularly hot for you, it might be due to a bug, as Game Director Swen Vincke has now confirmed.

What was said? Game Director Swen Vincke confirmed in an interview with TheGamer that the romantic relationships in Baldur’s Gate 3 were indeed faulty at launch.
This led to characters rushing towards the player much faster and more intensely than originally intended. Especially Gale, the charming wizard, seemed to go from zero to a hundred in flames. Swen Vincke additionally emphasized:
The consent thresholds were too low when we released the game. That’s why the companions were so eager at the start. It shouldn’t have been that way. We’ve fixed it in the meantime, at least for some of them. We’re still working on it.

Gale was the one most affected by this bug. Vincke emphasized that this was not intended and that Gale should not be making romantic progress so quickly.
Astarion seems to be the exception considering that he hands out the most rejections. According to Larian Studios , the heartbreaker has already handed out over 100,000 rejections in the first week of release.
Although some players welcomed the gained romance, it was not enough to prevent Larian Studios from fixing the bug.
Vincke explained that while there were many players who enjoyed this intensity, it occurred too quickly. The original goal was to make the romantic relationships in the game more realistic. He also emphasized that such behavior in real life would be “problematic.”
For those playing the game again (or on PS5) and wondering why it doesn’t work out with the romances right away: It seems that those playing on PS5 may have to put more effort into their romances.
To experience a successful romance in Baldur’s Gate 3, you should take the time to understand your companions’ needs. Make choices that your loved ones agree with. Gale, the charming wizard, might still get hot for you quite quickly, so be ready with the cold shower.
