On the occasion of the upcoming holidays, Baldur’s Gate 3 surprises players with an advent calendar, through which special rewards are to be unlocked.
What kind of reward is that? As Larian Studios announced on December 13, 2023 on X, formerly Twitter, the players have been well-behaved and are therefore to receive a few special treats. BG3 players and well-behaved? Are we talking about the same players who made a competition out of who can flatten the bear first?
That said – the reward is a type of advent calendar: For the next 12 days, players are to solve a small riddle daily in order to enjoy a “festive story with a Larian twist” and additionally scoop up rewards.
Christmas in the style of Baldur’s Gate 3
How does the advent calendar work? The advent calendar consists of 12 doors, behind which a small mini-game is hidden. Those who solve it will receive the next part of a Christmas story in the style of Baldur’s Gate 3: “How the Gremishka stole Christmas.”
The first mini-game is a simple memory game where 3 pairs of cards must be found. Here you can go directly to the advent calendar. If you don’t want to solve the puzzle yourself, you can find the first part of the story in English here:
How the Gremishka stole Christmas
In the taverns and halls where gossip is most prevalent,
A wicked creature is whispered about,
That appears once a year at the festival of the winter solstice,
To take away the kneecaps, noses, and fingers of the revelers.
“She despises the Christmas cheer, the mirth, and the revelry,”
Your grandmother says, with eyes wide with fear.
“Never go to her lair in the caves on the other side of the river,
Else Gremishka will get you and make you her dinner.”
How is it received? On X, players are more than just pleasantly surprised. For instance, one user writes: “You’re just embarrassing the other game developers with how much you spoil us.” (via X)
Others agree: Larian is simply the best; they wish them only the best and lots of love, one can read in the comments. Other players are less satisfied: they would prefer news about patch 5 for Mac or crossplay. Nevertheless, the overall mood is positive.
Now it remains to be seen what rewards are hidden behind the next doors.
It seems that Larian can hardly do anything wrong at the moment. Just recently, Baldur’s Gate 3 was awarded at the Game Awards. Game Director Swen Vincke accepted the award in the best possible way and thrilled the fans:
