Call of Duty: Warzone will feature a major crossover event with Godzilla and King Kong – Operation Monarch on May 11, 2022. You can find out what is known so far on MeinMMO.
What is happening in Season 3? Call of Duty: Warzone regularly releases new live seasons with fresh content, a new Battle Pass, and changes to the game. The new Season 3 went live on April 27 – here are the patch notes.
A major highlight for the new season is a crossover event featuring massive monsters – you wreak havoc as Godzilla or King Kong on the Caldera island. Here’s what you need to know about the event.
We are embedding the trailer for Operation Monarch here:
Season 3 – King Kong & Godzilla in Operation Monarch
When does the event start? Operation Monarch starts on Wednesday, May 11, at 6:00 PM. How long the event will run is currently unknown. The current playlist preview shows the event in rotation for at least 2 weeks.
What is known about the event? It is already certain that there will be a special event mode. The mode is designed for teams of 4 and offers a classic battle royale experience – but with a special twist involving Godzilla and King Kong. More about the mode can be found below.
It is highly likely that there will also be event challenges that reward you with thematic cosmetics.
There may also be further map changes during or at the end of the event. Areas underground in Caldera are expected to open up around mid-season. This is indicated by the Season 3 roadmap, and a teaser has already hinted at this:
There are still some bunkers/underground areas in Caldera that cannot be accessed yet.
How does the event mode work? Everything is initially like in a normal battle royale on Caldera.
Teams can search for a “Monarch Stream Device”. With this device, you can control King Kong and Godzilla.
King Kong has the ability to stomp on the ground and throw boulders. Players hit go into the K.O. phase.
Godzilla can set entire areas on fire with his atomic breath. Enemies hit by the beam are immediately dead, without K.O. phase. Additionally, the attack leaves fire on the ground.
Whether controlling the monsters remains the only special feature in the mode is still unknown.
Warzone promised to create entirely new opportunities for major events in the free battle royale with an overhauled engine at the release of Call of Duty: Vanguard.
At that time, it was assumed that there would be extensive adjustments to graphics and gameplay feel. The disappointment was tangible when the visible changes turned out to be scant.
However, at least the part about the events is now becoming a reality.
