Cyberpunk 2077 is still yet to come. However, the author of the source material is confident that the wait will be worth it.
At E3 2018, the first comprehensive look at Cyberpunk 2077 was a major highlight for many fans. The first actual gameplay scenes of the RPG looked outstanding, and the journalists present were thrilled. But does the high quality of the scenes indicate an imminent release? No – it seems we will have to wait a few more years.
E3 demo was a pre-alpha. According to the developers, the material shown at E3 was “only” a pre-alpha, and the corresponding scenes were polished. A lot of love and attention to detail went into the scenes that are still missing in other parts of the game. Therefore, the demo will not be released, as it is simply not representative of the overall work.
Cyberpunk author thinks the wait is justified. The author of the original P&P rulebook “Cyberpunk 2020,” Mike Pondsmith, was also present at E3. In an interview, he stated that he had “waited 30 years for this and it will be worth it. A few more years, you can handle that.”
When is the release of Cyberpunk 2077? There are no exact details regarding the release of Cyberpunk 2077 yet. However, CD Projekt Red is known for not rushing to meet release deadlines. The game will be ready when it is ready – meaning when the development team is satisfied with the quality. The more optimistic estimates suggest a release in 2020, in line with the title of the source material, the tabletop Cyberpunk 2020.
