Can you actually play New World with a controller? The answer is “Yes” – but the developers themselves recommend using a mouse and keyboard instead.
This is what’s happening in New World: On August 25, the Preview Event for New World started, which, however, had a few issues.
Some players who made it into the MMO might prefer to use a controller rather than a keyboard and mouse. But how does that work exactly and what do the developers say about controller support?
This is New World’s stance on controllers: Basically, playing New World with a controller is possible. As the developers explained in an event prior to the preview, such a feature was also introduced because of Steam, which also sells a controller.
However, it was emphasized that they would recommend controlling with a mouse and keyboard rather than using the controller. After all, there are no presets for controllers. Instead, you have to manually adjust each button on the controller.
In the same event, MeinMMO author Alexander Leitsch was also able to test the PvP wars in New World.
Has controller support always been there? The topic “Controller in New World” has been on players’ minds for a while. Originally, there was no complete controller support planned for launch, the developers explained via Twitter.
In response to some users’ inquiries, the developers later explained that the button mapping in New World is adjustable. Each button can be reassigned and the control is compatible with most input devices, also in terms of accessibility.
New World for PS4 and Xbox One? Although there are possibilities to use a controller, the game is not currently set to be released on consoles, not even on the next-gen versions.
The preview event runs for about 10 days, until September 5, 2020. You have time to thoroughly test the MMO. You can find all the latest news about the game in our overview of New World.
