Yesterday, on May 18, the banner for the new character Eula has launched in Genshin Impact. During the event period, you have an increased chance to obtain Eula and three other characters. We at MeinMMI reveal everything you need to know about the new banner “Waves of the Hour”.
With “In the Jade’s Glow – Part 2”, developer miHoYo has ushered in the next phase of Genshin Impact’s last update 1.5. Since May 18, the Eula banner is also live, where you can obtain the new character with increased chance. This is the second banner for version 1.5 after Yanfei.
How to get her? To unlock characters, you need to pray. This, in turn, costs primogems. While it can be farmed in-game, it is significantly faster to obtain through creation crystals. These can be obtained through certain actions or purchased with real money. This procedure is part of the Gacha system of Genshin Impact.
The chance of getting 5-star characters is generally extremely low. Therefore, banners are the only option to specifically obtain certain characters. When the banners are no longer active, you will have to wait until they return again.
Also, keep in mind that obtaining the desired character depends on a low, percentage-based chance. The Gacha system is often compared to gambling and is a criticism of such games. How exactly the system works, we explain in our FAQ about Genshin Impact’s Gacha system – How Pay2Win is it really?
But for whom is Eula actually worth it and what makes her special? We present the new character and show what she can do. Here you can watch the trailer for Eula that miHoYo recently released:
Origin, Skills, and Talents of “Whirlwind Dance of the Mist” Eula
This is Eula: Players have not yet encountered Eula, although she comes from Mondstadt. This is because she is constantly on the move as the captain of a reconnaissance unit of the Knights of Favonius and rarely returns home.
Despite her efforts for the residents of Mondstadt, she is quite unpopular. This is because her ancestors were part of the Lawrence clan, who exploited and oppressed the citizens of Mondstadt for a long time.
Some fear that Eula may be seeking revenge and is merely a saboteur disguised as a knight. However, according to Jean, these are unfounded rumors.
These are her traits
- Weapon: Greatsword
- Element: Cryo
- Rarity: 5 Stars
- Constellation: Aspergine Maris
Skills and Talents
What Eula can do: Eula wields a greatsword and can perform a 5-hit combo called “Favonius Bladework – Edel” with her normal attack. Additionally, she has the powerful attack “Icetide Vortex”.
What does the attack do? Her attack “Icetide Vortex” deals Cryo damage and activates the “Grimheart” buff. The buff increases Eula’s defense by 30% per charge and her resistance to interruptions. A maximum of two such charges can be active simultaneously. They can be refreshed every 0.3 seconds.
If you hold the elemental skill, the stacks of the Grimheart buff will be unleashed in a Cryo AoE. This weakens your opponents and reduces their physical and Cryo resistance by 23% each. Each charge lasts for 7 seconds. Additionally, the charges remain active as “Icewhirl Brand” on the battlefield, dealing 153% Cryo damage.
What does her ultimate do? It’s called “Glacial Illumination” and deals AoE Cryo damage. She summons a light sword that hovers near Eula. For every damage dealt, you charge energy.
Once the sword disappears, it causes a powerful explosion that deals physical damage. The more energy you’ve charged, the stronger the explosion damage. You can accumulate up to 30 charges for the sword.
These are the 3 talents:
- Aristocratic Insight: 10% chance to double the amount of items obtained while crafting
- Roiling Rime: If Eula has 2 Grimheart charges, holding her elemental skill will summon a light sword that explodes immediately, dealing physical damage
- Wellspring of War-Lust: When you use her ultimate in combat, the cooldown of Icetide Vortex is reset and Eula also gains a Grimheart charge.
These are her stats:
Eula is a very strong physical DPS, with quite high stat values that gain a critical damage bonus upon ascension. At level 90, she has:
- Base HP of 13,226
- Base ATK of 342, placing her on par with top DPS like Xiao or Diluc
- Base DEF of 751
Although she deals Cryo damage, she is primarily viewed as a physical DPS character.
Gameplay and Considerations
This is how you should play Eula: As mentioned, Eula is primarily a physical DPS character. While her abilities deal Cryo damage, you should prioritize physical damage with her.
Eula is particularly characterized by her buffs, debuffs, and her ultimate ability. With the Grimheart buff and Glacial Illumination, she is capable of building massive damage.
Ultimately, it’s about charging the light sword of her ultimate with as much damage as possible and then blowing away everything in your path with the subsequent explosion.
What makes it difficult: You need to pay close attention to your active buffs, debuffs, and cooldowns. Eula is not a character you just rush in and smash everything. However, if you master the interplay of abilities, she can build a lot of damage.
A certain strategy is required to utilize all synergy effects properly.

How long will the Eula banner be active? You can obtain Eula until June 8 with increased chances from prayers. You also have the chance for additional 4-star characters:
- Xinyan (Pyro)
- Xingqui (Hydro)
- Beidou (Electro)
How interesting these characters are will be revealed in our tier list for Genshin Impact.
At the same time, the prayer “Divine Work” is also active, where you can obtain powerful weapons. You can find more information about it on the official website. (via genshin.mihoyo.com)
