The taxi business in GTA Online is active. Anyone who wants can work as a taxi driver and earn money with it. We have tested how much money you can make with the missions.
What kind of job is this? As part of the “Los Santos Drug Wars” update, the taxi business was unlocked on January 19, 2023. A few weeks earlier, the developers announced the feature.
Now you can finally use it. But is it worth it? In the online world of GTA 5, everything revolves around money. We have completed 10 rides and will show you what you can earn.
Taxi driving as a pastime, but not to get rich
This is how it works: Anyone who wants to start as a taxi driver can mark the Downtown Cab business on the map. At the entrance, you confirm that you want to work as a driver. Then it always happens the same way: You pick up a passenger that is marked on the map and then take them to their destination, which is stored in the GPS.
The more passengers you transport consecutively, the more money you can earn per ride.
Buy your own taxi: At Warstock Cache and Carry, you can buy a taxi for yourself. It costs 650,000 or, with a discount, only 487,000 GTA dollars. The discount is available once you have transported 10 guests as a taxi driver. After that, you can purchase the taxi as a Pegasus vehicle. It will not be in your garage.
This is how much we earned: With 10 rides, we earned 14,316 GTA dollars. This is quite little money compared to missions and heists. In our comprehensive money guide for GTA Online, we show you how to really make a lot of money quickly.
First observations: During the first rides and discussions with people in the session chat of GTA Online, the following was observed:
- Per trip, you earn a maximum of about 1,900 GTA dollars; the first rides yield less
- Per trip, you must drive between 1 and 4 kilometers after picking up the guest – this takes a maximum of about 2 minutes
- You lose tips if you cause accidents
- After 10 trips, tips do not increase anymore
- 10 rides bring in about 15,000 GTA dollars
- You do not have to buy your own taxi; you can just use one from Downtown Cab
