The manufacturer Nike presents NFT shoes for thousands of euros, and on top of that, there are extremely expensive skins. MeinMMO explains how the shoes work and what you can do with them.
For your personal digital world, you can now buy just about anything. From bored NFT apes, to sailboats, to entire plots of land, you can buy anything for your digital life. These NFTs are part of the current trends in gaming, even if many gamers can’t quite figure them out.
But one of the biggest manufacturers of sports shoes seems to have discovered a market gap and is offering digital sneakers for sale. Prices vary greatly, but you could easily spend half a million euros if you want to buy your favorite shoes.
Nike shoes are now digital, cheerful glitter effects cost real money
Who is behind it? The well-known company Nike has teamed up with RTFKT Studios for the digital sneakers. This is a company that develops and sells digital fashion items and avatars. The company was founded in January 2022.
How do the shoes work? The Nike CryptoKicks are therefore NFT sneakers named “RFTKT X Nike Dunk Genesis.” You buy the digital shoes and can then give them a new look with a bottle (called “Skin Vials”). This way, you can give your sneakers fun patterns or glow effects. And all for a few measly thousand euros.
Such sneaker skins can also be bred and developed yourself. How exactly that is supposed to work is not known to us. Colleagues from PC Gamer compare it to Pokémon – just with shoes (via pcgamer.com).
What do the shoes cost? Prices for sneakers start at around 6,000 US dollars (around 5,500 euros), but there are already some shoes for which you have to pay more than 100,000 US dollars.
If you now also want a matching skin for your shoes, namely these “Skin Vials,” you will have to spend another 40,000 US dollars (about 35,000 euros). However, you can now easily spend half a million euros for these bottles.
You can pay thousands of euros for digital items if you want to
Many developers are now relying on NFTs in their games. For example, a new MMORPG with NFTs has already raised more than 40 million euros before release. This also shows that gamers are willing to invest money in such digital collectibles. A well-known developer even presented an online game where you can buy expensive NFT property.
And for those now thinking that thousands of euros for a pair of shoes or for a property is a lot of money, there are even more exciting examples.
An anonymous user treated himself to “The Metaflower Super Mega Yacht,” an NFT object for an online game. He paid 149 ETH for it. The crazy thing about the story is that the game doesn’t even exist yet. You can read the whole story and what it’s about on MeinMMO:
