Some players may kick you from the squad in Helldivers 2 if you wear a cloak to honor fallen soldiers.
Why do traitors shoot you? In Helldivers 2, the President of the Over-Earth gifted you a cloak that can be worn to honor the fallen soldiers on the planet Malevelon Creek. Accordingly, since then, there has been the “Malevelon Creek” memorial day.
However, there are now players announcing that they will shoot anyone wearing the new cloak. This announcement also went viral on Reddit:
There are already players reporting on Reddit that they were kicked from a lobby because of the new cloak.
Helldivers on Malevelon Creek fought on the wrong planet
Why is wearing the cloak a problem for some players? The fight on Malevelon Creek made no sense. Some players are convinced that the Helldivers would have been better off on other planets.
As one user explained on Reddit, the armed forces should have either liberated the planet Ubanea or defended the planet Draupnir to maintain the supply lines to planet Tibit.
Another player also asked during the ongoing galactic war on Reddit why so many Helldivers were on Malevelon Creek. He also emphasized that players should instead be fighting on Ubanea. At that time, nearly 60,000 players were on Malevelon Creek – without any strategic advantage.
The players who are now betraying the Over-Earth and shooting their comrades believe that the “Malevelon Creek” soldiers have harmed the Over-Earth’s fight, wasted forces, and are traitors themselves.
Why were so many players on Malevelon Creek? On one hand, the supply lines in Helldivers 2 are not easily recognizable. Players depend on external sites or maps if they want to know which supply lines lead to a particular planet.
Moreover, Malevelon Creek has a sort of meme status in the Helldivers 2 community, and there are even players on Reddit who report never having left the planet. Malevelon Creek is a recurring battlefield between the Helldivers and the Automatons and is referred to by some players as “Space-Vietnam”.
