Marvel’s Avengers will be released on September 4th. We from MeinMMO wanted to know if you are going to buy the multiplayer action game. Here is what you told us.
What was it about? In August, Marvel’s Avengers held 4 waves of beta tests, starting with pre-order customers and later open to all interested participants.
In a survey, we asked if you played the beta and how it affected your purchasing decision. You responded comprehensively in the vote and comments.
What do the results look like? The survey ended on August 27th. Each participant had only one vote to cast. A total of 1172 readers participated.
The distribution of votes was as follows:
- I played the beta and will not buy Marvel’s Avengers: 34.13% (400 participants)
- I played the beta and will buy Marvel’s Avengers: 29.69% (348 participants)
- I did not play the beta and will not buy Marvel’s Avengers: 26.71% (313 participants)
- I did not play the beta and will buy Marvel’s Avengers: 9.47% (111 participants)
In total, over half of all participants (60.84%) in the MeinMMO survey decided against buying Marvel’s Avengers. 39.16% are in favor of a purchase.
Players who participated in the beta tests had mixed opinions. While 34.13% were not convinced by the beta, 29.69% of beta players will purchase Marvel’s Avengers.
26.71% did not participate in the beta in August and will not get the game either.
The minority consists of 9.47% of survey participants who did not play the Avengers beta but will still buy it.
“The spark” did not ignite
Negatives: In the comments under the survey, the mood was more negative. In addition to technical performance issues and bugs, the gameplay was especially criticized.
Many commenters expressed their opinions on the battles and missions, saying that they simply do not provide fun. MeinMMO reader MrMittenz stated that he was looking forward to the game, but his anticipation has decreased:
[…] The fighting feels good and fun in the first few minutes until you notice that the 3 special abilities are only usable every 2-3 minutes and otherwise you are just button-mashing. It becomes very monotonous very quickly and is no longer fun. […]
The missions in the beta were monotonous according to you and offered no variety. The structure of the missions resembled “corridor levels,” which made exploring dull. Several readers mentioned that “the spark” simply did not ignite while playing.
Another criticism that was repeatedly raised was the controversial exclusivity deal with Sony. The popular character Spider-Man will be released exclusively for Sony consoles, along with its own campaign. Additionally, there is more exclusive content planned for PlayStation.
This has caused dissatisfaction not only in the English-speaking community but also among MeinMMO readers.
Thanks to the exclusivity deal and the lack of Spider-Man for other platforms, the player base in a multiplatform game is unnecessarily separated again. Buyers of the other versions receive a cut package. This is outrageous, and as an owner of a PS4 Pro (and gaming PC, Switch, and One X), I will not support it.

Positives: However, there were also some commendations for Marvel’s Avengers. These include, for example, graphics and character design. Some comments also positively emphasized that the game manages to convey the right Marvel feeling.
Character design and graphics, which many were upset about beforehand, I find fine. Moreover, the Marvel/superhero feeling comes across well.

Some readers also see greater potential in Marvel’s Avengers in the comments, even if it may not be top-notch right now. The hope is that the game will evolve and improve as a “Games-as-a-Service” over time, like some other representatives of the genre.
To me, it all felt like a good core that is just still too vague and generic. Some potential is already recognizable, but there needs to be more than just popular superheroes to really secure a solid position among the competition.
