Until yesterday, Stormgate was seen as a major hope for RTS fans. But after the trailer presentation at the Game Awards, the community is divided. It was not well received by many fans.
How was the trailer received? Despite the presentation by actor Simu Liu (34), the Kickstarter campaign did not gain much momentum. Hours after the Game Awards, it seems that the trailer did not have a significant effect.
- Since last night, only about €100,000 has been added to the campaign.
- This roughly corresponds to the amount that would have been raised without the presence at the Game Awards during this time.

This was probably unexpected: On YouTube, the trailer has only just over 7,000 views at the time of this update. In comparison, other Stormgate trailers collected between 150,000 and 300,000 views over the months. It remains to be seen whether the trailer will attract more interest from players; the initial boost from the Game Awards seems to be lacking.
What kind of game is Stormgate? Stormgate is a free-to-play real-time strategy game from Frost Giant Studios. The game is set to be released on Steam in 2024. As is typical for the genre, you lead one of several factions into battle against other players or in co-op against AI. We reported here about the “Mega Update”.
In a mix of base-building and battles on the battlefield, you try to storm and destroy the enemy base. At the same time, you must also take care of improving your base and acquiring new resources to gain the upper hand in the competition.

How did fans find the trailer? There are mixed opinions here; while some fans loved the game, others didn’t think the trailer was that good.
On Reddit, there are the following views:
- TomeOfCrows writes: ‘I’m incredibly excited for the game, but in my opinion, the trailer was a bit weak. Simu announcing it was cool.’
- Bloodnose_thepirate comments: ‘Simu Liu was great, and the trailer was fine; finally so much good news about this game lately. Let’s go!’
- Chrisau233 says: ‘A cool little trailer. I think the gameplay shown by the streamer presented the game better, but still cool.’
- mad_pony finds: ‘I love you, but this trailer is more aimed at my toddlers than me.’
However, some fans are still excited:
