The indie game Among Us has really taken off in recent weeks and is enjoying its hype on Steam. However, cheaters and hackers are currently causing problems. And this is despite the fact that the game doesn’t even reward them for it.
In Among Us, players band together as a team to carry out important tasks on a spaceship. Among the helping crew members, there are also saboteurs, the imposters. They have the ability to take out crew members. Most of you are probably familiar with the gameplay of Among Us. It is all the more surprising that there are actually cheaters and hackers in the game.
However, due to the player count records of Among Us on Steam, some bad apples seem to have joined in.
What is this cheating problem? In the Among Us subreddit and on Twitter, you can find some complaints from players about cheaters. And it’s not just about killed players continuing to talk and revealing the murderer. Because there are indeed people who run through sessions with mod menus and cheat other players.
Now you might be wondering how one cheats in this game, which is primarily about discussions, deception, and betrayal? Well, the people with mod menus can
- simply kill players one after another without kill cooldown
- increase their running speed
- end the game and decide which team wins
- set it so they are always imposters

In the clip shared by @DiegosTunes_ on Twitter, you can even see the mod menu in action. Here, the user selects to significantly increase their running speed and then rushes through the corridors:
Why is this a problem?
The downside is: Although there are no rewards in Among Us, meaning there’s no prize a cheater can take away from someone, it’s still annoying when they suddenly end the round in the middle of the action. Or, when crew members are taken out one after another.
You’re better off playing with a group of friends. Or you exchange friendship details in public lobbies or via Discord. This way, you can continue playing with people you trust. At least as far as cheating is concerned.
This is what the developers say: The development team at Innersloth consists of just three developers. For them, this is now a hurdle to get a grip on the cheaters. However, they already have plans on how they revealed to Kotaku.
- An account system will be implemented to provide better moderation and reporting features
- Additionally, they want to improve the servers to better detect and block hacks
