The online mode of Red Dead Redemption 2, Red Dead Online, features microtransactions. Now there are first insights into what you can buy for it.
Since Tuesday afternoon, many players have jumped into the beta of Red Dead Online. Initially, only selected players can participate because Rockstar is conducting a staggered release of the beta.
There is already a first look at the microtransactions that players can use in Red Dead Online. The payment options are available in conjunction with gold bars.
Real money purchases in Red Dead Online
Are the purchases already active? In the announcement for the Red Dead Online beta, Rockstar states that not all features are available in the game yet. This includes the in-game store, which will open later.
What can you buy in-game? The in-game store allows players to buy gold bars. Other items that can be purchased directly there are not known. It is possible that the in-game store only has these bars, with which you can obtain additional content.
What can you buy with the bars? Rockstar mentioned two examples for the use of gold bars:
- Cosmetic items to beautify the players’ camp
- Special styles for weapons
You can buy these items with the gold bars. Players also report that you can pay a merchant with 3 gold bars to direct the player’s honor in a certain direction. Your honor level affects some missions in Red Dead Online.
What do players say about the gold bars? So far, the mood regarding microtransactions in the subreddit is good. Players assumed that these would be included in the game. As long as they are cosmetic, most users have no issues with it.
How do you earn nuggets? On Reddit, player UnavailableIDs explains that you can earn nuggets through series like deathmatches or races. 100 nuggets are converted into one gold bar. Players currently receive about 0.02 to 0.04 gold bars (so 2 to 4 nuggets) through a match that lasts about 10 minutes.
When will the in-game shop come to Red Dead Online?
In the announcement for the beta, Rockstar explained that due to technical errors, it might happen that statistics or ranks are reset. Presumably, the real money shop will be delayed until this risk is eliminated.
Why should you wait for it? Players would likely be upset if they spend money and then their character is reset. Avoiding this risk and launching the in-game store later would therefore make sense.
