Destiny 2 has nerfed the Hunter so much that many thought it was a bug. Now it turns out that Stasis is simply way too strong, even after the patch and the problem lies rather with another Stasis skill.
What’s the story? On January 25, MeinMMO reported that the Stasis Hunter (Revenant) received a nerf, but even experts are wondering if it was faulty. Is it a bug that Hunters are still shattering everything with one hit?
- In fact, the Patch 3.0.2 was supposed to weaken the much too deadly kill combo of Glacier Grenade, Shatter Dive, and Stasis Fragment “Whisper of the Rifts,” which has been disturbing the Crucible since the end of 2020.
- After the patch was applied, the Hunter continues to kill everything in PvP with just one hit – even almost all Guardians in their super.
- This couldn’t seem right to many – after all, the patch notes show a ton of numbers that were revised downward.
- The question arose: Was Stasis nerfed or are there issues with the patch? It’s also very confusing that only one Titan super takes very little damage – does the nerf only apply in this case?
The Destiny community then kept testing diligently. The result: Yes, the Shatter Dive was altered as stated in the patch notes. The nerf simply isn’t enough and also highlights another Stasis issue.
That’s why Stasis Hunters now kill everything in PvP
The majority of damage from the Shatter Dive combo does not come from the Shatter Dive or the fragment “Whisper of the Rifts.” Both have been nerfed and this can be seen in-game.
The primary damage comes from the normal explosion of the ice crystals created by the Glacier Grenade.
- 5 crystals are created per Glacier Grenade, each one of them deals damage upon shattering.
- This damage is set at 84 by default, meaning without fragments or other bonuses.
- “Whisper of the Rifts” adds an additional second damage number: 30
- The damage from “Whisper of the Rifts” was reduced from 42 to 30. As stated in the patch notes at Bungie (via Bungie.net).
Even against Guardians in their super, the damage from the additional explosion caused by “Whisper of the Rifts” corresponds to the patch notes. However, due to the power of the shattering ice crystals, there is still far too much damage here.
Bungie has therefore not applied a faulty patch; Stasis is simply still so strong that players hardly feel the nerf. Because the maximum damage of a Glacier Grenade after shattering is 570.
What does this mean for you? Hunters take more damage during their Shatter Dive animation since Patch 3.0.2, and the range of the combo has been reduced somewhat. However, whether in super or not, if you are too close to more than one ice crystal, you will die just like before the nerf.
- Safe distance is about 7 meters from the ice crystal.
- In your super, the combo kills you when you are about 4 meters away.
Here’s what the distances look like in the game:
What about the overpowered Stasis Titan?
What is wrong with the Colossus: In his latest test, the expert Fallout Plays showed that only the Stasis Titan (Colossus) takes less damage from the shatter explosion. And significantly less, instead of numbers like 30, you see a 3 here.
Why the damage is reduced so much, Fallout still does not know. Weapons are correctly dealing about 60% of normal damage against the Titan in his super. However, with Stasis, there seems to be a reduction of 90%. Whether this is intentional or a bug remains to be seen.
You can watch the whole test on YouTube here:
So the Hunter is indeed nerfed as the patch notes promised. Would you have thought that the problem is rather the Glacier Grenade and its immense damage, which is triggered by the Shatter Dive?
Moreover, the other Stasis grenade, the Winter’s Wrath Grenade, is also becoming increasingly popular as Guardians discover more details about how it works…
What many in PvE of Destiny 2 might rejoice over could send Guardians in PvP into fear and terror: Stasis is getting even stronger – New aspects & fragments are coming
