XDefiant is a new free-to-play shooter from Ubisoft that is currently exciting many players. You take on the role of fictional organizations from various Ubisoft games. Some players and streamers are already calling XDefiant a “CoD killer” and believe: A shooter with a lot of potential is being created here.
When will XDefiant be released?
When is Xdefiant coming out? Late September or mid-October 2023. The developers themselves stated in a statement (via ubisoft.com) that the shooter should be released in a few weeks:
- If everything goes well with the development and the first patch, a release in September 2023 could be expected.
- However, should there be problems, the situation looks different: “If we have to make a day-1 patch, our [release] date will shift to early/mid-October.”

XDefiant – What’s in Ubisoft’s new arena shooter
What is the gameplay principle? In XDefiant, you compete against other players in various PvP modes such as domination and payload, trying to secure victory for your team. The shooter does not use “skill-based matchmaking” (sbmm) in casual playlists, which should please CoD fans. There will also be a ranked mode.
How much will XDefiant cost? Nothing. XDefiant is set to be released as a free-to-play shooter. Presumably, you will be able to pay real money for faster progression or skins, as is common in other free games.
