In the first “Inside Xbox” stream, Microsoft showcased an image of the companies that are already developing games for the new Xbox Series X. Among the companies shown are also some that have developed MMORPGs.
Which companies are developing for the Xbox Series X? At the live event on May 7, 13 new titles were announced, all of which are set to be released for the new console.
Among the titles were, in addition to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla from Ubisoft, the two indie titles:
- “Second Extinction”, a coop shooter where you fight against mutant dinosaurs,
- “The Ascent”, an action RPG that mixes Cyberpunk with Diablo gameplay.
In addition, Microsoft presented an image featuring a variety of developers and publishers who are already working on games for the new Xbox Series X. There are also some companies represented that are associated with MMORPGs.
These 4 MMORPGs are very likely
From the list, it can be inferred which MMORPGs will likely be playable on the Xbox Series X. 4 are very likely, as they have already been released for the previous generation.
Skyforge
In the first row of the developer logos, Allods Team can be identified. The company developed Skyforge, a free MMORPG that celebrated its 5th birthday in April and released a new free expansion.
Skyforge can already be played on Xbox One and PS4. Apparently, the developers want to offer the title for the next console generation as well.
Black Desert
In the center of the image, you’ll find the developer Pearl Abyss, known primarily for Black Desert Online. The MMORPG was released in 2019 for Xbox One and is expected to be playable on Series X as well.
Black Desert is among the most successful MMORPGs on Steam and is especially valued for its freedoms. Visually and gameplay-wise, it is considered very modern even today, although it will celebrate its 5th birthday in July.
Neverwinter
Another well-known company is Perfect World. Besides the eponymous MMORPG, they are the publisher for the game Neverwinter. The free-to-play MMORPG is based on Dungeons & Dragons and offers an action-packed combat system.
You can already play the title on Xbox One and PS4. Here too, a port to the new generation seems likely.
The Elder Scrolls Online
With Bethesda, a company in the list stands that could release multiple titles on the new Xbox. One candidate is The Elder Scrolls Online, which has already been released for Xbox One.
The MMORPG is currently bursting at the seams and even expanded the EU servers in April. Although there is currently no crossplay, ESO benefits from being released for consoles. A continuation on the successor console is thus more than likely.
New titles that could come to the Xbox Series X
In addition to the above-mentioned titles that are very likely, there are also 4 candidates that might make it to the new console. The question marks stem from the fact that they are either still in development or have not yet had a version on Xbox One.
Crimson Desert?
A potential other candidate could be Crimson Desert, an upcoming MMORPG that focuses heavily on story and PvE. According to the developer Pearl Abyss, it is supposed to be released on “multiple platforms”. A console version is therefore likely.
The beta for Crimson Desert is expected to start in 2020. A release this year seems rather unlikely. However, this MMORPG might even appear directly at launch for the Xbox Series X.
Currently, Crimson Desert is among the most anticipated MMORPGs here on MeinMMO.
Final Fantasy XIV?
Currently, the popular MMORPG based on Final Fantasy is only available for PC and PS4. However, a version for Xbox has already been announced. However, it is currently unclear whether this is for the current One or the upcoming Series X.
Either way, fans of Final Fantasy XIV can look forward to experiencing their adventures on Microsoft’s console soon. The fact that Square Enix is listed among the companies makes a release for Series X at least a little more likely.
Magic: Legends?
In Magic: Legends, the new action RPG from Cryptic Studios, Perfect World also takes on the role of publisher. Additionally, console versions have already been announced.
The game brings the popular card game into an RPG that resembles the Diablo series. MeinMMO author Benedict Grothaus has been particularly looking forward to Magic: Legends since PAX East.
New World or Lord of the Rings?
Also on the list of companies is Amazon Games, which is currently working on 3 new games. A potential candidate could be the MMO New World, which is set to release in August. A console version has been denied so far, but it is quite possible that the opinion on that has changed since then.
Other candidates from Amazon could include the shooter Crucible, which has also only been announced for PC so far, and the new “The Lord of the Rings” MMO, about which there is still relatively little information.
