After the mysterious “Xbox Scarlett” has now been officially unveiled with the Xbox Series X, there are further details about the new Microsoft console. It not only looks completely different but is also likely to be quite a bit larger than its predecessor.
Here’s how big the Xbox Series X will be: From several images of the official presentation of the Xbox Series X, both the shape and a possible size of the next-gen console have emerged. Apparently, the Xbox Series X will be almost twice the size of an Xbox One X:
- Xbox Series X: 31cm x 16cm x 16cm = 7936cm³
- Xbox One X: 30cm x 24cm x 6cm = 4320cm³
The numbers have been derived by the website Windows Central from the available images and calculated the size through comparisons, such as with the also presented controller. Therefore, the numbers are probably not entirely accurate, but they should at least provide a point of reference regarding the consoles.
Users are surprised, but see advantages
These are the first voices: The form and size of the Xbox Series X have already been discussed on reddit by the community. Here there are differing opinions about the new design.
Initial comparisons are being made with the competition from Nintendo. While Microsoft is now building a massive box, Nintendo is limiting itself with the Switch to two tiny controllers and one screen as an entire console.
There is also criticism that some versions of the Xbox One are not much smaller than the Series X. However, these cannot be positioned vertically. The Series X can be placed both vertically and horizontally.
That’s why the design is good: A major advantage of the shape and size is that the Xbox Series X can thus focus more on performance. The Series X is expected to be 4 times more powerful than the Xbox One X. Such a “tower” design allows for better ventilation features and thus increased performance.
I am really grateful that they have taken this approach with the console design. It was also time to focus on the primary game design and make use of the maximum performance they can achieve with a console in order to make it slimmer.

The design is compared to PC gaming. Many PC towers are also just blocks, but they allow for good air circulation and thus good cooling thanks to fans and their construction.
What do you think about the design? Do you have room in your place for the box? Or would you rather go for the competition, the PlayStation 5?
