Microsoft unexpectedly presented the planned new console codenamed “Scorpio” at the E3 press conference today. There was also the official confirmation of the Xbox One Slim. Read here all the known information about the consoles.
After images of the Xbox One Slim had already been posted on Neogaf yesterday, Microsoft surprised with a stronger console, which only carries the codename “Scorpio” during the press conference at the E3 2016. The new wonder console is said to have impressive features, be released in 2017, and have the following specifications:
- 6 teraflops of performance (the Xbox One has only 1.3!), equivalent to the power of a Geforce GTX 1070
- Memory bandwidth of 320GB/second
- Processor with eight computing cores
- 4K support (games and movies)
- Interface for virtual reality (VR)
- Full backward and forward compatibility with Xbox One and Slim
- Xbox One: Scorpio is only worth it for 4K enthusiasts, will cost a “premium” price
And another Xbox!
Scorpio will thus become the new flagship of Microsoft consoles, but until it is released, console fans can enjoy the Xbox One Slim, which was also presented at the press conference. This version of the Xbox is likely to be available as early as August 2016, and the price is expected to start at 300 US dollars for the version with the 500 GB hard drive.

The editions with 1,000 and 2,000 GB cost 349 and 399 US dollars, respectively. The new, redesigned controller is included in the package and costs separately 59.99 US dollars. In terms of size, the Slim is about 40 percent smaller than a regular Xbox One. Additionally, the Slim – codenamed “Edmonton” – offers the following features:
- 500, 1,000 or 2,000 gigabytes of storage
- 4K video support
- Built-in power supply
- Can be placed horizontally and – using an optional stand for 19.99 US dollars – vertically
- Content partners are Amazon Prime Video and Netflix
- HDR support for better graphics, especially contrasts
- No more Kinect port, Kinect must be connected via adapter through the USB port. Customers who already have an Xbox One with Kinect receive the adapter for free.
- New, grippy controller with double wireless range and Bluetooth support for Windows 10.
