The upcoming Xbox Scorpio is set to offer true 4K resolution and deliver graphics unlike anything seen before on a console.
The PS4 Pro has recently launched and is particularly impressive with its power in Battlefield 1 and FIFA 17. However, there are also critical voices concerning the current most powerful console: Only a few games run in native 4K, with most utilizing upscaling. Additionally, some games suffer from frame rate drops.
Microsoft is seizing the opportunity to announce shortly after the release of the PS4 Pro: Our console, the Xbox Scorpio, truly delivers real 4K and graphics never before seen on a console. At the Xbox FanFest in Mexico City a few days ago, Xbox Executive Aaron Greenberg was quoted as follows:
It [Note: The Xbox Scorpio] will truly deliver real 4K with visually incredible games that we have never seen before on a console.
This will make the Scorpio the most powerful console ever. Until now, only gamers who invest thousands of dollars in a high-end PC could enjoy such a premium experience. The new Xbox aims to bring this exactly into a console in your living room.
All first-party titles will come in native 4K
According to Microsoft, all upcoming first-party games launching during the Scorpio’s timeframe will come in native 4K. It was also stated earlier this month that the Scorpio will have backward compatibility for “Xbox 360” games. All “Xbox One” titles will also run on it. However, there will be no Scorpio-exclusive games – except for some VR titles.
The Xbox Scorpio is expected to launch in 2017. A price is not yet known, but it is said to be a premium price. The technical details of the Scorpio, which were revealed during E3, can be found here.
