The new Xbox Scorpio / Xbox X is set to be officially unveiled on April 6. Read here what the new name is all about and what information you can expect.
Microsoft is planning a new Xbox console under the project name “Scorpio”. It is expected to offer powerful 4K in many games and have enough power to compete with high-end gaming PCs. However, there is currently little concrete information about Microsoft’s new wonder console, only many rumors and supposed leaks.
The hardware experts at Digital Foundry (Eurogamer) apparently already received a Scorpio and want to showcase it publicly on Thursday, April 6 at 3:00 PM.
Xbox One Scorpio – 4k streaming and VR – Here are the known details about the Xbox One X
So far, there is little reliable information available online about the Scorpio. Even the name of the console is still unclear. Until now, it was known by the formidable name “Project Scorpio”; however, according to the Spanish site Elstate and a text published there, it is supposed to be called “Xbox One X”. No source was provided, and the image apparently did not originate officially from Microsoft.
More credible is the industry insider Shinobi602. He has continuously made headlines in the past with reports on leaks about current hardware, and his information has often been accurate. He also had some interesting details about the Xbox Scorpio in recent months. The following information about the new console is currently circulating:
- It is supposed to have an integrated power supply like the Xbox One S
- It is expected to be able to record content in 4K and 60 FPS via DVR feature
- It should have codecs for playing 4K streams
- It will likely have a 6 teraflop GPU for 4K gaming
- A large part of the game lineup is expected to run in native 4K
- All previous games and accessories of the Xbox One should also work on the new console
- There are expected to be no exclusive titles that run only on the new console
- The new console is fundamentally expected to be VR-capable, even though Microsoft may not initially support the VR feature
This information has mostly not yet been officially confirmed. Whether they are true will be revealed tomorrow at 3:00 PM when the reveal by Digital Foundry takes place.
Game lineup – These games are expected to support 4K on Xbox One Scorpio
According to the site Windows Central, the following games are planned for 4K gaming on the Scorpio:
- Middle-earth: Shadow of War
- Forza Motorsport 7
- Crackdown 3
- State of Decay 2
- Battlefront 2
- Red Dead Redemption 2
- FIFA 18
- The latest installments of Call of Duty and Madden
In addition to these native 4K titles, the Scorpio is also expected to upscale regular Xbox One games to 4K. Games that supported dynamic resolution scaling from 900p to 1080p on the Xbox One will likely also be upscaleable to 4K.
