One topic that should interest many gamers was the Game Pass. For many, Microsoft’s subscription is a cost-effective way to play a large collection of games without having to pay the purchase price for them.
Although one might think that Microsoft’s goal is to get many people into the subscription, the CEO intervened and stated that the subscription has a different purpose than making a lot of money.
Different products for every type of gamer
What has Phil Spencer revealed? According to Phil Spencer, the Game Pass is not suitable for every player, and Xbox’s goal is not to bring everyone into the subscription. Rather, the Game Pass is meant to be an alternative option for frequent players to enjoy their hobby at a low cost. The CEO summarized the following:
It’s not suitable for everyone. If you only play one or two games per year, the Game Pass is probably not the right business model for you; you should just buy those two games, and that would make absolute sense. But I want you to have the choice. That’s why we continue to focus on making sure that everything included in the Game Pass can also be purchased.
For the Xbox head, however, the Game Pass is not the central factor in enabling players to enjoy their hobby. According to him, Microsoft would also benefit if players decided against the subscription to buy the games they are interested in directly.
It’s also practical that not only Xbox players can benefit from the Game Pass. PC gamers can also subscribe to the service and enjoy the benefits of the subscription.
