World of Warcraft has long been considered the MMORPG for anyone looking to get into the genre – due to its size and accessibility. However, in recent years, the game has become significantly more complex, with players expressing their criticism of the guides surrounding the game.
This is what the players criticize:
- Over the years, WoW has received new systems, including completely revamped talents, which often hold the most power of a class.
- To fully utilize the potential, you often need to choose more complex talent combinations and use more abilities. Some classes don’t have an “Easy Mode”.
- Players say: Without addons, some classes are practically unplayable. And without an MMO mouse, it’s absolutely impossible.
Why is this a problem? WoW now has many mechanics that players must pay attention to. A user has pointed out that the classes themselves have become too complex and receives much support for this (via Reddit).
Without the right addons, it is hardly possible to play a class properly. The creator of the thread summarizes the problem with a comparison:
The game would be so much more fun if you could dedicate more brain capacity to what is happening around you instead of playing Guitar Hero in the WeakAura environment.
At the same time, players who just want to play and are in normal raids, dungeons, or in LFR often get kicked by the raid leader for underperformance. This happens quite frequently, especially with new players.
For this reason, weaker classes like Beast Mastery Hunters, who are lower in the DPS ranking of WoW, are often chosen by players. They are simply easier to play.
One of the classes that has turned out quite well is the Evoker. The entry is easy to understand, and the specs become really complex only later:
“No one tells you this because it’s not BiS”
Players identify the guides surrounding the game as a problem factor. Those looking for tips for their class often receive only what is absolutely the best for the playstyle (i.e., “BiS”, short for “Best in Slot”) – regardless of how difficult it is to play.
Most guides would forgo an “Easy Mode”, a build that works with many passive skills and still somehow does what it’s supposed to do. The idea:
The Easy Mode spec should just be the easiest way to play a spec. Minimize all buttons that need to be pressed. Then you can gradually add complexity. However, I see that many guides tell me to skip the talents that are clearly designed to make playing a spec easier.
Other users disagree here. In many cases, behind the complex talents are not only new abilities, but deeper in the talent tree, further abilities that are crucially important for the class. You can’t just skip them.
The problem is rather that new players cannot comprehend their class through the talent tree and the talents themselves. They are dependent on external sources. It is said that Blizzard needs to improve in this regard.
However, WoW has not only become more complex in terms of classes. New players now have several hurdles to overcome just to get into the game, and some of these are not clearly visible. MeinMMO demon Cortyn has already pointed this out for Battle for Azeroth: Believe it or not – WoW is too hard for newcomers
