Since patch 8.1.5 for World of Warcraft was released, you can earn two new allied races. We show you how to obtain the new races.
Which races can I unlock? Since the patch 8.1.5 became available on March 13, Alliance players can unlock the Kul Tirans, the people of Lord Admiral Jaina Proudmoore, and Horde players can get the Zandalari Trolls, the people of Princess Talanji.
How do I unlock the races? In order to unlock the two new races, you first need to fulfill some prerequisites. These are largely the same for both factions, with only minor differences:
- Exalted reputation with the Proudmoore Admiralty (Alliance)/the Zandalari Empire (Horde)
- Completion of the War Campaign up to and including “Tides of Vengeance”
- Achievement “A United Nation” (Alliance)/”Zandalar Forever!” (Horde)
- A character at level 120
After you have met all the prerequisites, you can find the ambassador (Jaina Proudmoore/Talanji) in your respective embassy. The embassies are located in Orgrimmar and Stormwind.
You will receive a quest from the ambassadors that starts a short quest chain and rewards you at the end with access to the two new races. We have outlined the quest chains here in detail in these articles for you:
What can the races do? Both new allied races have unique abilities, just like the Dark Iron Dwarves, Mag’har Orcs, and others before them. They differ significantly from their related Humans and Trolls.
The Zandalari Trolls gain more gold when looting, can slow their fall, and have strong active and passive bonuses. The abilities of the Zandalari Trolls were deemed overpowered shortly after their announcement and are still considered too strong by many players even after a slight nerf.
The Kul Tirans, on the other hand, build their abilities around their seafaring culture. They can swim faster, deliver jabs, and heal a portion of their damage taken. Here you can see the abilities of the Kul Tirans in detail.
In addition to their abilities, the new allied races also bring visual innovations. The Zandalari get cool tattoos and jewelry, while the Kul Tirans have a completely new, somewhat bulkier model than Humans with options for necklaces and earrings. Both races also get their own dances.
