Hunters can tame a unique pet in WoW: Shadowlands. But they only have one chance – it must be used wisely.
While most World of Warcraft players like to collect mounts or battle pets, hunters crave the coolest, most beautiful, and most exclusive companions. Right now, you can get one like this – because it is only available once in the game. We will tell you how to get the translucent purple serpent and what you need to do for it.
What kind of pet is this? It’s the serpent “Shadow of Dambala”. This is a large snake with a purple-violet hue, but it is also translucent. It is the only creature with this appearance, making it highly desirable for collectors.
Where can you find the pet? The Shadow of Dambala can only be obtained by hunters who have joined the Night Fae. Also, they must not have completed the quest “Cleansing the Forest”. This is a quest from the Night Fae campaign, which becomes available at Renown level 8 – so earliest since last Wednesday (December 9).
The quest is divided into several phases. During the second phase, one of your objectives is to defeat Dambala. During this, you are actually transformed into a rune deer. Break the transformation and fight Dambala in the conventional way.
Dambala summons several “Shadows of Dambala” every few seconds – these are the creatures you can tame. Just be careful not to lose the threat of the animal while taming, as the taming process will otherwise fail.
Can the pet still be obtained afterwards? Yes, but with some detours. If you have already completed the quest, you need to reach out to a Night Fae player who still has the quest open. Have them invite you to a group and activate the Party Sync feature. This way, you can play the quest together and have another chance to tame the Shadow of Dambala.
Is this intended by Blizzard? It’s not entirely clear. Usually, Blizzard is against companions that are only available once. Years ago, there were several companions summoned by other creatures as additional adds that could be tamed by hunters. However, since the serpents are now in circulation, it might be problematic to fix the taming with a patch.
A possible solution would be to simply implement a visually identical snake as a rare mob in an upcoming patch. Then hunters who have already completed this quest would not be left out.
Those who want to be on the safe side should get the Shadow of Dambala as soon as possible. Who knows how long this opportunity will last…
