Housing in World of Warcraft is important to many. We have found out which features you definitely want.
A few days ago, we launched a survey about the upcoming feature in World of Warcraft. We wanted to know from you what content you hope for from “Player Housing” and which options you absolutely do not consider. You actively participated in the survey and provided us with a clear picture of what is important to you – and what is not.
How was the participation in the survey? In total, 1,333 people participated in the survey. While there were a few individuals who only selected one answer, over half made at least 5 selections, thus very concretely outlining what is expected from the housing system – and what is not.
No shop, no pressure, and definitely a lot of freedom – The most important features
- 74% believe that the housing feature needs many different designs to satisfy all races. The teaser trailer only showed a human house, which unsettled some. However, Blizzard has already confirmed that there will be much more selection.
- 69% find it important that there is “no obligation” for housing. The feature should be separate from other mechanics. Those interested in housing should engage with it. It should be as little intertwined with other game content, especially regarding character power, as possible.
- 68% of you consider it particularly important that all features must be obtainable in-game – either through drops, crafting, or gold. Housing items in the shop for real money are strongly rejected.
The least important features
Three other potential features landed at the bottom of the survey, which do not find much favor. However, looking at the percentages, there is still a substantial part of the community interested in them.
- Only 50% want the ability to create guild houses where the entire guild can reside and which can be used for large guild meetings, for example.
- 46% would like their house to come with certain comfort features and services, such as access to the auction house, a bank, or portals to the most important places in the game world.
- The option to establish a shared living situation with other players in the game world was least favored, with only 29% support. Most see no value in this option.
What the community thinks
Some of our readers justified their opinions or provided additional comments under the survey.
For instance, Vanzir finds it particularly important that housing is not limited or tied to regular costs, as in Final Fantasy:
Belief is primarily important to me, and I hope that Blizzard does not take inspiration from Final Fantasy, where houses cost rent and you are forced to be active, otherwise you can no longer afford it or lose your house.
Just as I hope for good phasing, so that everyone has the opportunity to have a house where they want it, and it is not determined by who comes first and is lucky – while the rest has bad luck.
Myuu79 finds one thing important that we had not considered:
Two things are missing here… Please instantiate housing so that everyone can get a house (…). And also nothing with paying rent like in New World.
However, there are also a number of people who do not understand housing so far and do not really know what the feature is supposed to be for. As “Dude” writes:
If I could think of what to do with it, absolutely nothing comes to mind that the inn doesn’t already offer. What I absolutely do not need are other players in the environment I created. Guild rooms, why? There is already guild chat for that. I simply see no added value in housing, sorry.
However, several months will pass before the housing feature is released. Because it will not be released until late 2025 – if Blizzard can stick to the schedule. This gives Blizzard plenty of time to gather community feedback and address any requests.
