Hearthstone has activated a new feature that is also interesting for WoW players. You can now experience the background story of Jaina Proudmoore.
A new game mode has been active in Hearthstone since yesterday (15.09.). In the “Book of Heroes,” you can replay some stories about great characters from Azeroth. The first one features Lady Jaina Proudmoore and provides a small glimpse into her background story.
Why is this worthwhile for WoW players? In World of Warcraft, the storyline of most characters has progressed quite a bit. While most players know roughly who Jaina is, her background story is hard to uncover in the game. That’s frustrating since Jaina plays a larger role in the recent history of Battle for Azeroth.
But how did she actually become the mage who now shapes the fate of the world? For those who don’t want to play through Warcraft 3 and the entire WoW story, you can now check out a rather amusing summary in Hearthstone.
How can you play this? Simply start Hearthstone, select “Solo Adventure,” and then “Book of Heroes.” You will then experience 8 battles that highlight the key moments of Jaina’s life and learn how she became one of the most powerful mages of Azeroth.
With each victory, your hero power changes, and you learn a bit more about how the events have shaped Jaina.
Quite serious, despite Hearthstone: Although the stories in Hearthstone are usually a bit more absurd and humorous than they are in Warcraft, this does not seem to be the case with the “Book of Heroes.” The eight selected moments from Jaina’s life are well-chosen and explain how she became the character she is today (at least in Hearthstone). Key events include:
- The meeting with Archmage Antonidas to become his student
- An encounter with Kael’thas, who was in love with Jaina
- The argument with Arthas over the purification of Stratholme
- The attack by Garrosh on Jaina’s city Theramore
- The purification of Dalaran and the battle against Aethas Sunreaver
Even though the encounters – due to the nature of Hearthstone – of course cannot come with endless lines of dialogue, the battles are interestingly designed. They offer a good insight into the events that have shaped Jaina’s character and show how her views came to be in the current expansion “Battle for Azeroth.”
Since the adventure is free and you don’t need any cards to play it, the experience is also worthwhile for players who usually have little to do with Hearthstone.
In the coming months, the other 9 heroes will also be provided with stories and adventures. We will remind you when that happens.

Have you played Jaina’s story yet? What do you think of this adaptation?
