With its lifespan of more than 10 years, World of Warcraft has experienced quite a few curious news items. This ranges from people reaching level 100 with a dance mat to Pandaren leveling up just by collecting flowers. A common demand in MMORPGs over the past few years has been the call for playability on consoles. But would World of Warcraft even work on a gamepad? This question was tackled by the YouTube channel Force Gaming, which simply tried it out. With just three small interface extensions, everything was made a bit more minimalist.
Thanks to the new feature of the action camera, World of Warcraft can be experienced from a completely new perspective. It almost invites you to casually play the game with a controller in your hand from the couch.
Of course: With mouse and keyboard, you will always be more precise and thus “more effective” in playing. But for an entertaining “casual experience,” the controls are certainly sufficient.
This is quickly proven, as Force Gaming effortlessly tanks a low-level instance and even completes a few daily quests at level 100. Even dialogue options and rummaging through bags for items are no problem. The only thing that seems rather unusual is using the chat via gamepad.
Mein-MMO says: At least with the warrior, it doesn’t look so bad. However, it could be problematic for healers or classes that need to select target areas for their spells. There, precise spellcasting would be very difficult. But at least in its basic form – that is, for leveling and questing – World of Warcraft could be played with the gamepad. The YouTuber rightly wonders: Why is a console version not an option for Blizzard?
